In the interest of cataloging my life...
Last time I posted was Jun 20.
Monday night I stayed with Miami and Wuff and BBW... muchly enjoyable.
Tuesday I worked out that-a-way and went back to hang with Zart at 'Roo's place. The three of us plus Verec and Growler went out in the 'Slade with some sort of rap playing and got laughed at by black guys in the Eastdale ghetto. Bein' all wack was not as great as I might have imagined.
I noted this when I returned the SUV Wednesday morning. Wednesday night was band practice. I return home to find Berner, who snuggles (only snuggles!) me that night. Yay!
Then "Branwyn's Evil Pride Weekend" sorta starts... I have no plans but am hoping for a randomly fun and unplanned Pride weekend.
Thursday morning at 6:15am I get a call from my boss. Today is they day they start building the 2006 model year of one of my cars, and one of my parts that is new for 2006 isn't anywhere to be found. I head into work immediately. Spend all day trying to figure out what went wrong, and why, and how to fix it, and how serious it is, and do we need to change all the ones that were built wrong, etc. etc.
Also of note is that I had a similar but less severe problem with a different part on a different vehicle made in a different factory several hours away (the one I was at Tuesday) which ALSO started building the 2006 model year vehicle the same day. Good call, whoever planned that.
Friday was more of the same. Friday afternoon I was to get a trial done so that Monday morning we could actually start building the cars with the right parts. At 2 pm I finally get all the approvals and am told it's too late already, wait until first thing Monday morning.
First thing Monday morning is 6:30am! And I'd have to be there earlier to prepare.
Run off to the studio to pack up stuff for the band... everyone is so very late. I have bought tickets to see a Forte performance between set up and when we play. I take my stuff and go, pick up the tickets on the way (since it had to be done before the performance), get Miami who was attending with me, head to the bar, drop off stuff, Jer (who was going to come with) was nowhere to be found... so we headed to see the show without him.
Show was great. The choir was not the best I've seen it, several new members who were not as comfortable as they will soon (I hope) be. But some of it really was very nice, the special guest was funny, and the reprise of the "Steam Heat" show for the second half of this recital, in 1/3 the time with no set and few props was still great, especially given the historical significance. Talked about getting a copy of the video that was made of the original "Steam Heat" staging. Was reminded of the song "An Innocent Man" by Billy Joel, and several other excellent and relevant musical choices.
The standing ovation at the end of the performance ended up being for George Hislop himself, founding father of the gay movement in Toronto, on whom the narrator of the "Steam Heat" play was loosely based, and who - now as a frail old man instead of the tireless champion of gay rights - was in the audience that evening. It was quite... moving. It has additional impact now, while writing this, to know that gay marriage is now legal in Canada. I have goosebumps.
Headed back to the Reverb for the show. We'd been moved back. Because we didn't have any paying attendees, we had last-place priority and thus played at 1:30am. Suck. Good show though.
Then we packed up again and I took Miami to 'Roos again where we hung out a bit and then headed home. I had to be up early AGAIN the next morning to take my car in (clutch slipping) at 7:30am and then rented a car so I could pick band members up and start heading out to Trenton for 11:00am, where we were playing a biker charity festival just after noon.
So tired at this point, not even funny.
Was a gorgeous day... we played largely to about 75 people in a beer tent where we couldn't see them, and maybe 10 people in a field that could hold thousands. Was a decent show, though I fucked up a lot, likely at least partly due to lack of sleep, but nothing really terribly noticeable.
We hit "The Big Apple" (A pie shop, not New York City) on the way home, got pics with a giant apple, bought pie. Jer drove and I slept. We had pie with ice cream and some girlie drinks here before the band dispersed and I could finally go to pride!
Except I didn't... instead I hung out with NuDog, chatted, ate a leisurely supper on the patio at "Fire on the East Side" and wandered through hordes of pride-goers for ten minutes before we said "screw it" and left.
Slept a reasonable amount that night, decided NOT to go to the Pride parade, instead had a picnic in High Park near Grenadier Pond (surrounded eventually by hungry geese) with Simbayo. Was really quite nice.
Then Simbayo and I got the idea we needed to go swimming since it was so hot. Much bad planning ensues, and eventually Simbayo and I, as well as Kovu and Tora and Wyvern (friend of Smilee and Ruka's who came with them to visit for Pride) head to the ferry dock to head to Centre Island and go swimming at the "clothing optional beach"... it was a hoot! The water was DAMN cold (though marvelously effective for plunging your core temperature to appropriate levels in seconds), but the company was warm and the air was nice and the sunset over Toronto was awesome. :)
I parted ways with Simbayo and went to join Tora, Kovu and Wyvern at the hotel room, since I could get a hold of neither Dralen nor Fuzzmonster to go to their place as previously planned. Got to take part in an amusing little "Farce" gag where Wyv wanted to shower after being in Lake O, and Tora asked if he wanted company, but Wyv had to decline because he'd declined Kovu that morning. So I asked if that meant I could shower with him, to which he conceded! I win! I was entertained. The shower was also very nice... for several reasons. It garnered me a flattering invite to stay the night, which I had to decline due to previous commitments and HAVING TO GET UP STUPID EARLY.
Then I head to Dralen's where he and Fuzzmonster have a party going with Tariq and Laha. I donated picnic leftovers (including pie) and we drank Mojitos. (I am getting closer to perfecting them, and more determined than ever, especially after having a particularly good one at "Fire on the East Side" a few days earlier.) I had to pop off after not much time with not much booze because, of course, I need to be up in 3 hours.
(So, in summary, for Pride this year I spent extra time time at work; with straight people in straight bars and even in small military towns; or with guys who don't seem interested me; and only a few seconds at pride activities. Brilliant. But the non-work parts were actually pretty good.)
Work early Monday. Due to other circumstances it turns out I could easily not have come that early, without problem. Fuck off early to see Smilee, Ruka and Wyv off at the airport (who happen to have Berner with them) and then Berner and I hung out and ate and I did a few chores and he got some stuff done, so it's all good. And I got even MORE snuggles!
And today I worked, worked out, had leftovers, and then vegged online. Yay!
Whew, kamikaze. I'll clean this up later. [Done.]
