OOC: Soundtracky Things

Jul 02, 2011 19:15

Sometimes, I'm a derp and like to create soundtracks for my characters, or in this case, their ships. Meet the Senkha/Oliver soundtrack, as it currently stands on my iTunes:

Across the Stars - Star Wars: Attack of the Clones

Okay, so Anakin and Padme take derp to new levels. They love each other like they're blind and wear corsets when it's time to say "I don't want to have sex with you." But somehow, this instrumental just fits, much better than my preferred "Han Solo and the Princess." It works. What else can I say?

Bad Romance - Lady Gaga

I want your ugly, I want your disease
I want your everything, as long as it's free.

This basically summed up Senkha's sudden!crush on Oliver and her continual insistence that she was completely and totally okay with him being a plague-bearing hideous undead monster. Which she pretty much is. I especially like the desperation of the bridge: "I DON'T WANNA BE FRIENDS" which is basically where Senkha goes every time Oliver goes into another "I am bad for you" speech. But he goes there, too, so it works.

Return of the Birds - Mediaeval Baebes

One night, Cathedral Square was stupid. Oliver had offered to buy Senkha a drink the week before. Senkha decided to take him up on that because of "intelligent conversation." They ended up talking for hours and then dancing, while this song played. It was kind of like that.

Later, Oliver took Senkha to a dance. They did a lot of dancing. Senkha still isn't very good at it, even moreso now that her leg is fucked up.

Everything - Alanis Morissette
You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can’t relate
And you’re still here

Because who understands homicidal urges better than a Death Knight? But seriously, this has pretty much been them from a very early point: they cut each other to the core and see everything about each other and still don't leave. Now, whether this is due to a sick emotional dependence on each other or due to actual love, who really knows?

Need You Now - Lady Antebellum

And I don't know how
I can do without
I just need you now...

...I'd rather hurt than feel nothing at all.

It didn't take very long for the two of them to decide they needed each other. It wasn't just a case of "I want you here with me" or "it's nice having you around," but an actual need. When the world goes pear-shaped, when everything falls apart, when all hell breaks loose, it doesn't matter where they were before: they need each other now.

With me disaster finds a playfield
Love seems to draw dark twisted pleasure tearing at me
Cause I cannot let you go

I blame Nialos for this one. I think this is his personal song for Senkha/Oliver and it works so gloriously. I don't think there's much that they wouldn't give to keep being together, which is why they make so many stupid and deadly decisions. It's all with that goal in mind: to be together.

(Everything I Do) I Do it for You - Bryan Adams
Look into your heart - you will find
There's nothin' there to hide
Take me as I am - take my life
I would give it all - I would sacrifice

It's likely a bad thing that most of the decisions Senkha's made over the last year-plus have been made solely for Oliver's sake: braning, becoming a better person, giving up assassination to do Good Things, etc. He makes her a better person because she's learned that funny little thing called "self-sacrifice," and the result is either amazing or disturbing. Possibly both.

Would you mind if I hurt you?
Understand that I need to
Wish that I had other choices
than to harm the one I love

Love the Way You Lie - Eminem, feat. Rihanna

Maybe our relationship
Isn't as crazy as it seems
Maybe that's what happens
When a tornado meets a volcano

Azshara. Stormwind. Nagrand. Lordaeron. Corin's Crossing. This is what happens when you put two monsters together and tell them to play nice. Most of the time, they're fine. Most of the time, they only hurt each other in the little ways that couples do: a careless word here, a forgotten moment there. Most of the time, they only get a little annoyed or angry. But then sometimes, they manage to find each other's worst buttons and push them so hard that it explodes. They kill each other, they torture each other. And at the end of the day, no matter who hurt whom, they come back to each other.

It's not healthy. But damn if it isn't amazing.

Undisclosed Desires - Muse
I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognise your beauty's not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart

A good chunk of those aforementioned abuses come from the darker sides of them: Virh and Itzhal. Or don't name them. They don't need names. They're in everyone. They don't need faces or voices of their own. They're the dark people we become when circumstances are right or wrong. It's the side of Oliver that wants nothing more than to possess Senkha--like one would possess a puppy--and raise her as his pet. It's the side of Senkha that wants nothing more than to be possessed.

I won't quote lyrics for this one because basically the entire song is completely applicable to them. Hence why it's the theme on this journal and why I've had, like, seventeen billion entries titled with lyrics from this song. I don't think a song out there better encapsulates the dark romanticism of this relationship. So I stick with this one.

Like You - Evanescence

Grieving for you,
I'm not grieving for you.
Nothing real love can't undo,
And though I may have lost my way,
All paths lead straight to you.
I long to be like you,
Lie cold in the ground like you.

[fun story: this song is written about Amy Lee's dead sister that she never met. Dem gawths, man]

So here is a song describing Senkha's feelings towards Oliver, when she's honest with herself. Being alive is such a barrier. If she was dead like him, they could stop worrying about silly things like him killing her. Hey! Well. She might not really want to be dead like him at the moment, but give her some time alone if he ever gets his head lopped off and she'll be sitting around with her black eyeliner and Evanescence before too long.

My Confession - Josh Groban

I have been wrong about you.
Thought I was strong without you.
For so long nothing could move me.
For so long nothing could change me.
Now I feel myself surrender
Each time I see your face.
I am captured by your beauty,
Your unassuming grace.
And I feel my heart is turning,
Falling into place.
I can't hide it
Now hear my confession.

Don't worry, Oliver is just as creepy, and Mac chose this one herself. Oliver may be better at looking publicly sane or at least making people think that he's totally okay and could get along without Senkha just fine, but at the end of the day, the thought of losing her sends him into a bigger panic than the reverse.

On a different note, I think the best word for these two? Is "need."

[also, that video? Officially creepy]

[Mmmyeah, I ship Eric/Sookie, whatever]

One could definitely be compared to far less favorable vampire/human couples. Like a certain sparklepire. I think that's why vampire romance stories always draw people's imagination, though, and I think it's what draws the imagination with Senkha and Oliver: she feels out of place among the living, he longs to feel alive. The relationship is never ever healthy, but the health doesn't matter as much because (a) it's fantasy and (b) they need each other. Desperately. Wholly. Entirely.

The end.
