NaNoWriMo Update 4

Nov 30, 2012 01:06

I have one more day to reach my goal. Concerning the word count, I have a little more than 1100 words to go, which shouldn't be a problem assuming nothing weird happens tomorrow to prevent me from writing. For that very reason, though, I really don't like having so many words to go while so close to the deadline. I suppose I could be writing on my story now instead of writing this if I want more cushion in my word count. But I always reach a point each day where I'm tired of looking at and thinking about the story, and I just need to stop. Right now, I've reached that point. I'll start fresh tomorrow and pray that it is an uneventful day.

Now, for my other problem. I finished the story today with almost 1900 words remaining. This is even after stretching scenes out as long as I could and sending the last segment's plot into a sort of winding path that will have to be tightened up later if I expect anyone to read it. So from there I went with plan A. I started writing my little MacGuffin scenes at the beginnings of the segments. I started at the beginning of the story and was able to add almost 400 words. Then I went to my second segment and wrote about 400 more words. I ended up adding about 800 all together. Great! But I only have two more of those little scenes and around 1100 words left to fill. It's going to be close, and I'm going to be mad if I have to fill in a few lines of what amounts to junk just to make my goal. It would almost feel like cheating. I'll do it if I have to, (I swear, if I'm off, it will only be by a couple hundred words at most!) but I won't like it.

Plan B isn't reasonable at this point. I have ended the last segment nicely and would have no need to carry the story further. Besides, that's a lot of work for only a couple hundred words. It would still only amount to junk that I'll just get rid of later anyway. So, I'm sticking with Plan A and growing the story from the inside if I have to.
