Well, Ben had those movie star looks
and he walked down to the local thrift store to purchase a sweater complete with holes
And when he wore it, he evoked memories of James Dean
And Janie thought that if she stuck around,
Ben might take her places that she'd never dreamed.
On friday nights they'd sit in Bens fairlane and Listen to music from the earlier era
Roy orbison and Bill haley
He said that it'd have to get better
as they Often outlined how they would life their life daily
And then Ben got called away to fight for the injustices of the higher ups
He got a rifle put in his hand
and was told he had to kill the spread of communism
before it reached the christian land
and janie thinks that sometimes souls, they just dont recover
weather it be in freehold
or vietnam
so she moved into the arms of another man
Ben came home two summers and countless trigger pulls later
he was worried about not recieving letters
Until he found out why
they say Ben just sat there blank stared
rubbed his hands, and stared at the sky.
He walked around the pond till it seemed like his feet where boulders
then he took the highways shoulder
and he found the house that Janie now called home.
and walked there and prayed she'd be alone
he knocked on the door and there she stood
and all ben could do, was muster the worlds "how could..."
5 minutes passed without even a whimper
till ben spoke to janie about times that where simpler.
"I know, Baby, maybe two wrongs dont make a right....But two lonely hearts...hell, they just might. and I can see in your eyes, that I'm still the man with the holes in his sweater. But if this is what makes you happy, i'd like nothing better. But know that soon I wont be around, and If you decide to one day leave this town, Baby, I'll take you places that you've never dreamed. yeah the war taught me lie and cheat and steal and scheme, but, honey, I'll always be your James Dean".
'Cause I'll always be your James Dean.
