moving experience

I hate movers.  If knew last week what I know now, I would have surrendered my deposit to the moving company and just rented a Uhaul trailer.  Argh.

So Beloit has given me a chunk of money to help me move to Wisconsin.  At $2000, it seemed like more than enough to get the job done professionally.  Sure enough, when I called various companies, I got ( Read more... )

First off, sounds pretty crappy. Getting good movers is a definite science.

Secondly, sounds like they were charging you once for going up the stairs and once for going down, which sounds sort of shady.

Thirdly, you do realize that 5x10x10 is 500 cu ft, right?

Firstly, yes.

Secondly, the guy declared that the company defined a "flight" as five steps. Thus, thirty steps to the third floor = six flights. I can fight this one pretty easily, though, as I have a written estimate that includes a much smaller charge for the two stories of stairs between my place and the ground.

Thirdly, yeah, I know. That's why I was surprised to find that he took 550cf to pack my stuff - minus the chairs. It should have fit in a much smaller space.

I thought it would've been because of the turnaround, that's tricky when you have an armful of whatever. But yeah, five steps per flight? Lame.
