YAY! I'm all done with school! I had the pinning ceremony on Monday night, and the actual graduation was Tuesday night. The pinning ceremony is special for the nursing program. It's where you get your nursing pin and recite the Nightingale Oath and stuff like that. Graduation was fun too, and as a special surprise my brother was able to rearrange his work schedule and come home in time to make it. He's going back to WV today after his dentist appointment here at the office. Anyway, I ended up getting a 91 on the final exam and a B for the semester, which gives me a 3.2 GPA for the program. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself! There was only ONE person in the whole program who graduated with a 4.0, which is absolutely insane. I understand now how unrealistic it was of me to expect to breeze through the program with a 4.0 when I first started, especially since I was working at the same time. MAYBE, just MAYBE, if I didn't have to work and had all kinds of time to devote to school, I could have pulled that off, but it's still doubtful.

On Sunday night I went to the Radiohead show. I don't regret going, but I don't know if I would ever again go to a concert at an outdoor venue in a deluge like that (for those of you who don't know, there was a MONSTER storm on Sunday night in the DC/metro area). My shoes were basically ruined, my jeans were totally soaked through, my socks were soaked and full of sand and grit, and my feet were totally numb. Plus it took us like three hours just to get home when it should have only taken about 45 minutes, because a bunch of the roads out of the venue were flooded. Nonetheless, the show was awesome. I've always wanted to see Radiohead, and they don't tour often. I've always regretted not running away from my tenth grade music field trip in NYC and buying a scalped ticket to see them at Radio City Music Hall. Plus, clothes dry out, shoes can be replaced, hot showers can be taken...

Now that I'm finally done with classes I have some time for leisure reading again. Fortuitously, the parents of one of the kids I tutor gave me a $50 gift certificate to Border's, so I can stock up on reading material. I'm reading "Portnoy's Complaint" right now by Philip Roth, and it's hilarious. I read part of "The Counterlife," also by Roth, but I never finished it, so I should probably do that. I also need to finish "The Brothers Karamazov" and "Ava, Or Ardor" (or better yet, just restart them and read them all the way through). After that I'm open to suggestions. Can anyone recommend something in particular?

Now all I'm waiting for is the Fairfax County school year to end so I won't have any more tutoring to do. Admittedly I'll miss the cash, but I won't miss the drama and the crazy schedule. Imagine! Going straight home from work and making dinner for yourself! Having a quiet Sunday afternoon at home! Making plans with your friends in the evening without having to make 10 calls to reschedule appointments! It's going to be sweet.
