Rated:  T
Genre :  Drama / Angst / Friendship
Characters :  Kangin , Yesung  with Leeteuk and the rest of Super Junior.
Warning:  UNBETA-ED,  Lengthy chapter, F-words & Co. , mindless whumpage of characters, possibly inaccurate medical jargon.
Summary :   After a hard day of work, all Kangin wanted was to go home and get some much needed sleep. Just how and why the hell did he end up in this mess?

Leeteuk-sshi.." The doctor began "Kangin-sshi's current state is caused by his damaged kidney. When we operated on him the first time he came in, the kidney damage was somehow missed. It is common for people who were involved in road accidents to sustain renal trauma. Most cases, they resolve by itself. Unfortunately, in your friend's case, it had developed into a bigger complication."

Leeteuk's found himself in that position once again,  he stared ahead not really seeing the doctor, mouth falling slightly agape. It hadn't even been a week since he was placed in this kind of situation. He wanted to scream at the doctor, wanted to curse at him for missing out on something as serious this.

Kangin had been on his way to recovery. But now this?

He gritted his teeth and swallowed all the violent thoughts he had, gathering his composure. He can't just lash out, it'd only make things worse.  " If it's common then how could you have missed it! Frankly I don't care what's your excuse! You should have known better! "Leeteuk's anger biting at every single word said.

The doctor shook his head, fully understanding the younger man's frustration.  "Leeteuk-sshi, I promise we're doing every thing we can for him right now. We'll immediately start him on broad spectrum of medications that will help him fight this. Other than that we'll be monitoring his renal output and toxin level closely. Right now we're hoping that the medications will reverse the damage done to the kidney"

Hoping? "And if that fails to fix it? "

The doctor's face grew darker, he sighed heavily. " I'm afraid then we'd be looking at a kidney transplant as our last option." Before Leeteuk had a chance to open his mouth again,  the doctor abruptly added "But let's not cross that bridge until we really have to okay? In any case, I'll go ahead and put him on the waiting list for kidney transplant as precaution." The doctor silently prayed that they wouldn't have to cross that bridge.

"We're moving him back to ICU as we speak, a nurse will come by to assist you once he's settled." The doctor offered a sympathetic smile, but it didn’t make Leeteuk feel any better.

Another week passed by, and Kangin had not turn for the better. Leeteuk once again was forced to swallow another bitter news. Kangin's kidney damage had been irreversible despite everything the doctors have been doing for him. Kangin's health was deteriorating fast, in the end the doctors were forced to cross the bridge that they've been dreading to cross. Kidney transplant.

The doctors in charge of Kangin's case had explained that Kangin's name on the waiting list hadn't move up by much. They were afraid that Kangin might not make it by the time it's his turn.

Options.

But of course there's one more option. It would make a whole big difference. More damage could even be avoided if they could find a live donor that's willing to give away one of his kidney as soon as possible. With live donors, they can chuck the whole kidney transplant waiting list aside. As long as they find a perfect match.

Upon learning about the whole live donor mumbo jumbo, Leeteuk had gathered his army to discuss about it, hoping that one of them could be the match the doctors been looking for. At first  Leeteuk, Hankyung, Siwon, Shindong and Sungmin were the only ones brave enough to say that they were willing to. But as days passed and reality starts to sink in for the others, they finally agreed to get themselves tested as well.

Eleven men went in for the kidney compatibility test.

Kangin now has eleven chances in his hand.

That should be more than enough right?

Now all they need to do is wait for the result to come back.

Ever since he learned the truth about Kangin's condition, Yesung had been more than determined to stay vigil by Kangin's side. The news had hit him like a sucker punch to the solar plexus. He'd spent days in and days out with the same routine. Yesung didn't know how many pitiful glares he earned from people around him. He didn't care.

Kangin's breathing had become more and more labored each day that they had to put him back on oxygen. Hospital staffs had been in an out frequently, making sure everything's in place. At first it had been overwhelming for him to watch Kangin being poked and prodded, but he eventually got used to it.

"Youngwoon-ah.. it's all gonna be okay, you can fight this! I know you can."

Leeteuk cleared his throat and got up from the chair. He had been in Kangin's room along with Yesung since that morning, his stomach was starting to grumble in protest. "I'm going to the cafeteria, you wan't anything?"

"It's alright I'm not hungry hyung, thanks."

"You should ea-"

"Not hungry...!" Yesung raised his voice in a annoyance, his eyes never leaving Kangin's too pale face.

"Alright then..." Leeteuk knew better not to push on the subject. "You should get some rest soon..."

Waiting for a reply that never came, Leeteuk nodded "I'll be back soon" with that, he left the room quietly.

It's not only Kangin he's worried about now... there's also Yesung that he needs to keep his eyes on.

The doctor raked his fingers through his thining grey hair. "Leeteuk-sshi..."

There it is again, for the hundredth time, the tone that Leeteuk had learned to dread since his friends were admitted to the hospital. With that tone, it could never be a good thing.

"I know you were hopeful that you or one of your friends would be a match, but after various testings and procedures, none of you seems to be an eligible match for Kangin-sshi.

Leeteuk felt like he's been hit with another brick."W-w-what's that supposed to mean? You said that Kangin will have better chance with live donor!" He stammered.
"Leeteuk-sshi, please calm down... kidney transplant is not as simple as it sounds."

Simple? When did giving away your organ was ever simple?

"After numerous of tests, we just fail to find a match, I'm sorry Leeteuk-shi."

"How about his family then? His parents? Relatives?"

"The ones that had volunteered, they didn't match as well..." The doctor explained.

The doctor drew  yet another heavy sigh " There is... one possible match though."

Leeteuk's eyes became wide, anticipating for the doctor to finish .

"But he still needs to be evaluated again, and honestly I had hoped myself that this person won't be a match.." he continued "Yesung-sshi... had insisted that  he gets tested. His test result had been the only one with positive outcome. Even though his body is still recovering, we've rule out lungs and heart disease, plus his kidneys were healthy enough making him eligible to donate. I've gone through telling him the risks he might be facing if he were to go through with his decision. "

"N-nno-! no! you can't let him do it doc, you just can't! Not him!"  Yesung's not even fully recovered yet.

"Leeteuk-sshi, I understand that you worry for him, since he's an adult I can't really interfere with his decision. I've explained to him what needs to be explained and he seems to be determined despite the possible risks. If you could talk him out of it, I suggest you'd try. But as a doctor in charged of Kangin-sshi, I will honestly tell you that this might be the only chance Kangin-sshi has, unless a miracle turns itself up and changes everything."

♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥

"I know what you did Sungie... " Leeteuk said as he leaned against the door frame, his tone accusing. He's not truly sure if he wanted an explanation or  comfort from the younger man.

Oh, hyung, you're still here? I thought you left with the rest. "Yesung looked up to the older man, setting the manga he was reading aside. "Don't you guys have like an early schedule tomorrow? Wookie told me you guys are going to Daejeon early in the morning"

This Yesung, he hadn't seen this Yesung since the accident happened. His eyes were soft, his voice calm. This is the normal Yesung he's used to. If Yesung was ever even normal.

Leeteuk nodded. His face was serious.  He didn't even bother to answer. "Sungie, why did you do it? You know you're not supposed to get involved in this!"

Yesung knows exactly where Leeteuk was going with this conversation. "Hyung... what do you want me to do? Watch Kangin fade away just like that? We're all brothers hyung! I'm only doing what I think I can help with!  It's not like we're left with any other options! Right, hyung?" The room suddenly filled with tension, Yesung didn't even realize that he had raised his voice. He didn't realize that his eyes were already moist with tears against his eyelids.

"What... do ..you want. me to..do hyung? " his breath caught in his throat  "I c-can't.. I can't  just sit and watch.." Yesung finally broke down in uncontroablle sobs, racking his thin frame viciously.

Within seconds Leeteuk was already by his side, his arms wrapped potectively around Yesung's body drawing him close. His own tears silently cascading down his cheeks. "Shh.. Sungie.. I'm sorry.. I'm sorry... I just dont want to... " he swallowed the lump in his throat " I just can't lose you too..."

This isn't the way he had planned it to be. He had only planned to talk Yesung out of it.  Or maybe threaten him a little. But not this. Never this.

Leeteuk remained by Yesung's side until the poor kid had finally succumbed into an exhaustion induced sleep. He didn't let go of Yesung until hours later. What do I do with you Jongwoon? What do I do?

♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥

The day to Kangin's transplant operation is drawing near.

Almost all of Super Junior members were present in Yesung's room that Thursday afternoon. That had been the first time that they came to the hospital as a complete set. Well almost complete that is, excluding Kibum who went back for filming in another province. They had gone to see Kangin earlier, as they weren't allowed to hang around for too long in the ICU, the mean looking nurse had ushered them out of the room not even ten minutes after they went in.

The air in Kangin's ICU room had been undeniably heavy, everyone were too overwhelmed to see their usually strong lively and outgoing friend in such a frail and vulnerable condition, unconscious and hooked up to various machines. Dying.

With all of them crammed up in Yesung's midsize personal room, the air hadn't been any better either. A different kind of tension builds up in the room, everyone seems to be attacking Yesung for the decision he had made.

Leeteuk had gone through it the other day with Yesung himself. He didn't like the idea one bit, but he learned to accept it. He knew how Yesung might have felt. He had witnessed the kid broke down, and Yesung is never known for breaking down in front of others. He'd keeps things very well to himself most of the time.

He can't say for sure if he'd do the same if he were to be placed in Yesung's shoes. And that disturbed him, deeply. Because of that, Leeteuk now have neverending admiration for Yesung.

The convesation had been heated up by Heechul, followed by Donghae, with Shindong injecting a couple of words here and there.

As for the rest, they didn't even dare to open their mouths. Same as Leeteuk, they didn't like the idea, because they were scared and worried for him, but it's not their place to say anything. So they accepted Yesung's decision with heavy hearts.

When Yesung refused to reply to their heated words, they knew exactly which button to push.

"Leeteuk hyung. It's time you knock some sense into Yesung hyung here! He can't go on like this. He's on the one way road to destruction, you know it! It'll destroy his mind if it doesnt destroy his body first!

Leeteuk swallowed thickly, every word that Donghae had said made sense, but he didn't want to go up against Yesung at these kind of times. Especially not now. This should be the time when all of them stick together, support him and help him through it. He can't let the others throw their frustations and worries on Yesung like that. He learned that lesson himself recently. He understood why they  were saying what they said. He just wished they had'nt use anger to mask their fear.

"I'm a grown man. I can think for myself, and I can make my own decisions. I'm giving him my kidney, and that's final, there's no use for you people to keep throwing words at me! I won't change my mind! I just wont." Yesung defended himself.

Heechul scoffed upon hearing Yesung's reply. Heechul was getting rather impatient with Yesung's emo crap. "Sungie! If you're really a grown man then you wouldn't be making rash decision like this! We all love Kangin! We all are worried! But look at you, you're not even fully recovered! and you're trying to throw yourself in the fire pit? trying to be the martyr? You--"

"Enough!" Leeteuk's firm voice echoed in the room stopping Heechul from continuing. Leeteuk was never a man of temper, but they are sure testing him.

"That's enough Heechul"!  His voice went back to his normal but sad tone. "You're his hyung! You're supposed to support him at times like these, not bring him down. He doesn't need this! Hell all thirteen of us doesn't need this! Leeteuk cant help but to feel guilty, for he had been the one to let the other members know about Yesung's decision.

He casted sympathetic eyes on Yesung, whose face was flushed red with anger and frustration, his eyes brimmed with tears threatening to roll down his cheeks, his breathing on the verge of hyperventilation. Ryewook was rubbing his back in comforting circles, trying to calm him down.

"I just don't know why you guys can't just support my decision..." a few small voices echoed softly in reply "we support you hyung"
"Even if you don't want to support me then why don't you just leave me be?!" He couldn't control how hard his voice was wavering anymore "Why are you guys so against me? Am I doing the wrong thing? Trying to save Kangin's life... is that so wrong that you guys need to remind me that my decision is wrong and that I'm selfish? Who's being selfish really? "

Leeteuk, Eunhyuk and Ryewook's face were already drenched in tears. Not really sure how to deal with the situation at hand anymore. Since the accident, things had been spiraling out of control.

♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥SJ♥

Two days after the group confrontation would be the day Kangin and Yesung would be operated on. The day they were going to perform the transplant.

Leeteuk, Ryewook, and Kyuhyun had arrived in the hospital early in the morning, wanting to see Kangin and Yesung before the operation. They even planned to wait around until the operation is completed.
The doctor had explained that Yesung's surgery might take around  6 to 8 hours, while Kangin's surgery will take slightly longer depending on how the surgery will go.

The four of them had made a quick visit to Kangin's ICU room. His parents were there beside him, looking somber but hopeful for their son's recovery. They went to see Kangin briefly, silently praying for everything to go smoothly. After a few awkward minutes spent in Kangin's room, they excused themselves knowing that his parents might want to spend some time alone with their son before he's being prepped for surgery. They then head to Yesung's room.

When they entered Yesung's room, a doctor was inside with him, giving another brief explanation regarding the surgery. They entered quietly and remained silent until the doctor leaves the room.

"Hey! You're here!" a smile formed on his face.

"How are you doing this morning ?" Leeteuk asked in obvious concern.

"I'm alright, they'll be taking me into the OR soon" He replied lightly. "Have you seen Kangin? I haven't had a chance to see him since yesterday, they've put me on sedatives so I'd rest for today's surgery."  He pouts , making him look like a little boy.

Leeteuk chuckled at that. "Yeah we did manage to briefly see him before coming here. His parents were there, and the they were almost prepping him for surgery already. He looks pretty good today, his vitals were more stable too!"

"That's good, I didn't have a chance to say hello to his parents, do that for me later will you?"

Leeteuk nodded slightly.

"Hyung, are you sure you don't want your mom to know? She should know..." Ryewook eyed Yesung worriedly.

"Nah, Wookie, I don't want to add any more stress for my mom. She's been through a lot of stress as it is, with me, with my brother."

Leeteuk, Ryewook, Kyuhyun knew it was useless to argue about it. So they let it go and moved to a different topic.

Leeteuk and Ryewook had been more nervous than Yesung.  Their pacing around the room almost damn drove Yesung crazy, not to mention that his phone kept ringing as the other members who weren't able to be there with him due to their schedules keep on calling. They had all called in to wish Yesung good luck for his surgery, and they wished him for a speedy recovery. Even Heechul had called him, sounding his usual self, not bitter and angry as the last time they had spoken. He had even apologized in his own phsycho way. And Yesung was nothing but grateful.

Yesung had had been calm, he even shared a few of his fail jokes with Leeteuk, Ryewook, and Kyuhyun. He seems to be ready to face the surgery,  not doubting his decision one bit.

It's true when they say time really pass quickly when you don't want it to. Because before they knew it, the ordelies and a couple of nurses already made their presence known in the room. They were there to prepare Yesung for the surgery. And soon they'll be taking him away to the OR. The bright mood suddenly turn sour for the three men.

They watched helpelessly as the nurses prepare Yesung for surgery.

Yesung's eyes never left the three men even as the nurses were working around him, poking and prodding him. He offered them a smile, telling them that everything will be okay and they need not to worry about him.

When he's finally done and ready to be rolled out to the OR, the three men quickly ran to his side to wish him luck once more.

Leeteuk's eyes were already wide brimming with tears. "Sungie-ah, we'll see you again in 6 to 8 hours okay? Promise?" His hands gripping hard on Yesung's hand.
A small laugh escaped Yesung's lips "Hyung-ah, don't cry you'll look so ugly! and old! " Clearly trying to lift up the mood.

"Hyung! Fighting!" Kyuhyun cheered from behind Leeteuk.

"Hyung... fighting! Be strong!" Ryewook was holding back his tears, not wanting to cry in front of Yesung.

"Fighting! Wookie, don't forget to keep taking care of Ttangkoma for me, Wookie-ah!"

Those were the last word Yesung said before he was rolled out towads the OR.

Ugh! Done finally! That was hard. I guess that's why I don't really like having 30932092 characters in one scene. I always manage to leave someone or something out somehow.
I'm not sure if I'm able to post the next chapter up as soon as possible because I might be heading north for the weekend.
Other than that I hope you guys will still manage to enjoy this confusing chapter!

Oh plus, I did totally ignored the fact that Yesung's blood is type AB and Kangin's is O, in oder to feed my rabid plot bunnies, I had to carry on with it and pretend that Yesung's the only one compatible to give his kidney to Kangin.
Cheers darlings! Stay safe!
