Note: This game is a direct sequel to New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS, released in 2006. I have not played that game, though I have researched it, and since the intention is to compare this one to the side-scrolling platformers of the past, I will not refer to that game unless it is pertinent to the review.
