Good twisting of American history. Since I'm not American I didn't know who Lincoln's first Vice President was. I didn't know he had two. Plus I've watched Civil War history documentaries and don't remember it being mentioned. Oh well.

Actually I'm thinking Clark reading those slave manuals is going to upset him. 'Cos I suspect it'll tell him what "Wertham's" really is if I'm thinking right on what it means. As I think there were two or more possibilities. But the story theoretically narrowed it down. Lastly when's the next chapter? 'Cos still addicted. ;-)

Well, as in all things with them, Vice Presidents tend to get overlooked. :)

LOL! I love an eager reader! Well, I started typing Chapter Six tonight. Shouldn't be too long. Thanks for reading and glad you're enjoying the series!

This is a fascinating AU! I've thought about the impacts of the Civil War ending differently, but usually in terms of the rest of the world. How different would everything be if the U.S.'s power had been split? I don't think we'd be the hegemon we are now, for good or bad. This mixture of slavery and caste and modern culture is interesting.

Anyways, I love this story. Please keep writing! One thing that you're probably going to explain more later but I'm curious enough about to ask anyways - can you explain the Starchild thing more? Is it just that Bruce vaguely knows that Clark's an alien? What status do aliens usually hold on Earth?

Thanks, Vespa! As a Civil War/Lincoln buff, I couldn't help but put all this stuff in. :) It's long been a 'what-if?' that has fascinated people. Spike Lee made the film "The Confederate States Of America" recently and postulated that question, and there's been novels written about it, too. I have a special affinity for Gettysburg as I've actually been there and stood on Little Round Top, where the Maine Union troops pushed back a constant Confederate attack that might have just saved the entire battle for the Union.

I chose to have Bruce call Clark 'Starchild' because when he first saw him, he was struck by how unearthly his beauty appeared, especially the eyes when he was able to see him close up.

Aliens hold the same status as Humans on Earth: if they're free, they are treated with the same respect as Earth freemen. If they're slaves, they are treated as property. Further chapters will give more information on the Galactice Empire of which Earth is a member.

oh great chapter! I am falling asleep in front of my pc but i just wanted to tell you i love the twist you gave it. i was wondering how you were going to justify this but it worked really well. (i really hope this is making some sort of sense) poor Clark. I can't wait to see how you'll allow him to forget his shot...

sorry about the lame post. I meant tow write more but i literally fell asleep while typing.
I loved the fact that Clark was *quite* afraid of Batman but would rather not meet him in a dark ally. LOL. I'm loving the attention to detail in this fic. tho i have to admit that for every chapter you have posted, at the end of the chapter i always think "it *can't* stop here~!! it's not *enough*! damnit i need moooooore!" ehm. yeah. this is one of those fics that i will likely be begging for sequels when it is finally finished. lol. we don't have *nearly* enough slavefics in this fandom...

Thank you for your comments! I'm trying to be as detailed as possible, throwing in things here and there that might make people go, "Hmm" or "Oh!" or "Ah *ha*!" ;)

I think you might be satisfied with the length of this. Three more arcs plotted for sure so far. ;)

Eeee! More Slave!Fic!

“Whew! Quite a whirlwind!” Clark said.

lol, whirlwind Bruce!

because you’re Human, once a slave, always a slave."

Oooh, is this the beginning of how Bruce will be able to free Clark? Because he's not human?

He listened to the ticking of the mantel clock, hoping that the throbbing in his head would go away.

Poor Clark! *hugs him*

Oooh! Batman has made his first appearance!

Oh, and thanks for the historical background. I know next to nothing about american history, so it was very informative.

BTW, can I friend you? I don't want to miss any of this wonderful fic...

Bruce is a Force of Nature! :)

Can't tell you. ;)

*hugs Clark, too*

Yes, the Bat has made his first appearance. Definitely not his last. ;)

Glad the historical background helped. I wasn't sure how much people knew, so I wrote it out.

Yes, sure! *blushes with pride*

Very interesting! I was wondering if Bruce was Batman in this AU, or whether something else was going on. I wasn't thinking that you were going to try to tie this into actual American history in any way -- and, hence, I don't know what I think about romanticizing the historical institution of slavery in this context -- but for the time being I'm still with ya. ;)

Thanks for writing!
