The Most Wonderful Weekend of the Year

Dec 29, 2004 12:11

A lot has been happening. This is an attempt to cover most of it. I hope to cover some details of it in the future.

My Birthday (23rd)
My birthday went exactly the way I wanted it to. Slept in, hung out with David & his family, had an awesome dinner and awesome presents.

Christmas Eve
Call me crazy, but I went shopping using the money I got for my birthday. Fry’s Electronics (at Thunderbird & I-17) didn’t have anything I wanted, except for a new processor fan, but there was no way in hell I was going to wait in the long line of 100+ people just for that. So I went to Best Buy, even though I was pessimistic about what I’d find there too. I found what I was looking for except for the processor fan AND the line was maybe two dozen people with less than a five minute wait!

Later, I drove to my mom’s so we could go to a Christmas Eve church service. We sang a bunch of Christmas songs, not all traditional, which was a nice change, followed by a series of drama skits and a message illustrating how people lose focus of what Christmas is really all about - The birth of Jesus. An incredible prelude to the big day. We stopped by the Wrigley Mansion to check it out and so my mom could apply for a membership there. It has a beautiful view of the valley and downtown that none of the website pictures showcase. After getting home, my mom and I crashed on the couches shortly after watching a little TV.

Christmas Day
It was after 3AM, and I couldn’t sleep any longer for some odd reason. So I talked with my mom for a long time, ate breakfast, walked along the canal for a while, opened presents, and then I headed home for a while. After watching a couple episodes of "24" Season 3 on DVD, which I bought for myself, I took quite a nap while I was home. Then I grabbed some dinner with my mom and went to see Manuel in the hospital. It was nice for the most part, although he was repeating some stuff that he had talked to me about before.

The Day After
Hung out with Jessica and her family for lunch, and then went over to Brian & David's house for dinner to celebrate Christmas with them. Yet another day filled with fun and togetherness.

The 27th
I'm thinking a little bit about the idea of selling my condo. It would be nice being closer to campus, not having to find/have roommates, and be in a "safer" area, among other things. The problem is, none of these factors stand out enough to knock me off the figurative fence I'm on right now. A realtor my mom knows stopped by my condo to look at my place and give me a written analysis on how much she thinks she could sell my place for. She thinks it can go for nearly five thousand more than what I bought it for less than a year ago. That's insane, but it just might work, because real estate isn't very predictable and anything can happen in the market.

Much like how wonderful Jesus coming to this world was, my words can never manage to describe what this weekend has really meant to me.
