Open House

May 26, 2004 17:04

I got some things done this weekend: Put up a medicine cabinet in our bathroom with Jake's help, switched which side the fridge/freezer door opens from, and went through a bag of clothes that needed to be hung up in a closet.

Other than that, I just took it easy. I also went to David's Open House to celebrate his High School Graduation this Thursday. It was nice seeing some of his friends I had met before, in addition to meeting some others. We had a great time just talking and playing some board games. I got him the board game Cranium for his graduation. Unfortunately, Monica wasn't feeling well at all, otherwise she would have gone.

Another job was posted at ASU that I'm interested in. It's pretty much the same job title as mine, but requires 3 years of Information Technology experience and pays five and a half grand more per year. I'm applying for it as soon as my resume gets reformatted, which has been such a pain in the ass when I tried doing so last night.

The whole lack of roommates situation is becoming more of an annoyance, as evidenced by this exerpt from my cross posted ad in 2 LJ communities: "I have had one hell of a time trying to find roommates for my condo. It seems like everybody wants a place in Tempe. I have signed up with a dozen different online roommate services (a few of which I have paid for), contacted nearly a hundred people through these services, posted ads at Grand Canyon University & Phoenix College, only to get a hand full of callbacks and only one person who actually took a look at my place. I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions you guys might have for me."
$400 per month includes utilities. Nearly everything furnished. Nobody I've contacted has ever said that what I'm asking for is too much. Sure, one could make the argument that you could get an apartment for that cheap, but to that I say this:

"Yeah, you could get one for that cheap...if you want to live in a shit hole."

It must be all about how far it is to where people plan to work or go to school. It's too bad everyone I know goes to ASU. If I can't find a roommate by August, I'd consider having Akshai move in, but I don't know if he already has a place lined up with someone else. I could hope that he'd know some people with Teach for America that could use a place, but I'm not sure how likely he would be to refer them if he's not going to move in.

Chump is dead. I tried upgrading (AKA flashing) the BIOS to a newer version, an error said it couldn't do it, and now it powers on but does not display anything. So I'm gonna replace the BIOS battery, and if that doesn't work I'll send an email to tech support, requesting that they send me a newly flashed chip.
I ordered a new power supply for Renegade Master. It's supposed to be pretty quiet, has a decent airflow, and provides stable power from what I've read. Anything is better than the annoying fan on my computer when it warms up.
