The Drought is Over

Mar 11, 2006 03:09

The last time I saw water on the concrete paths outside my work's building, it deceived me into thinking that it had rained. It turned out that it was just cleaned with a high-pressure water sprayer.

As I exited the stairwell to outside, the concrete was wet once again, and there was complete silence, so I thought it had been pressure washed. As I stepped away from the building, pitter-patter sounds told me that I had been deceived once again. Deception and confusion only entered my mind for a moment, then I stretched out my arms, lifted up my head, and spun around, declaring my discovery. In less than a minute, the rain completely died off, making the conclusion of the 140+ day drought very surreal. I had to share the news with someone that I knew was going to be awake. I would have called my co-worker still in the office, but I wanted him to be just as surprised as I was.

I met Kassi and a few friends at a cantina/resturant just a few miles north of Tempe for karaoke after texting her about my surprise that evening. I hadn't seen Kassi in quite a while, and had only seen one picture of her online since then, so my curiosity was what played in my car on the way there. She looks a lot different, but that is a very nice thing.

It is amazing how far one dollar will go. Kassi did a song, and before I knew it, I was up. The first song was one I had envisioned me singing for a while, but the quality of my voice for it was left in my dreams. People were far more sparce here than the places I have usually been to for karaoke. One of Kassi's friends, Chris, looked eerily familiar, but I had no idea where I had once met him before. It could have been with anyone, anywhere.

My second song was much more somber and downtempo. You wouldn't know that with the two girls that were dancing on either side of me. Kassi and her friends were highly amused by the sight, and I have to admit that I felt the same way a bit, even if I was put in the middle of it.

Even though I was not burdened by class today, the same could not be said for work. Some major networks and servers went down, which caused us to get slammed into the night. Furthermore, I learned that annual evaluations are just around the corner, due in just one week, and for good reason. It may partially determine how much of a raise I get, courtesy of the Arizona Legislature and Governor. It is the first truly across-the-board raise of its kind in years.

Saturday - I'm making a trip to Costco. Sunday - I'm going to the Ren Fair with Jeanne, Joe, Brandy, Shawn, Michelle, and more. Next Friday - I'm taking a trip to Cali, hitting the Santa Monica beach with Brandy and Shawn.

Spring Break has started.
