there's something that has really REALLY been pissing me off lately.
i am a democrat. i am voting for john kerry and john edwards on tuesday's election. i am doing that for my own reasons, and i keep to myself about it. i enjoy the occasional anti-bush cartoon, and i loved that website i posted a little while ago that highlighted my personal favorite word flub of his.
do i give a shit if you're voting republican, though? not one bit. if you have a valid reason to vote for bush, i'm not going to try and stop you. you have obviously put thought into your decision and are voting for the candidate who you would like to lead this country.
everyone in this country has a voice, and a right to be heard. it seems that in this past year or so, however, my fellow democrats/liberals think that they deserve a louder voice than everyone else. it's gotten completely out of hand. people around me who are planning on voting for bush are constantly berated by left-wingers who love to claim how "open-minded" they are... whereas, i haven't heard a single negative thing said to me by any of my republican friends about my vote.
especially in the punk/hardcore/indie/etc. scene.
it seems that the general mentality of a kid who goes to shows, is more or less: "nofx told me that bush is an idiot, so i bought 25 anti-bush t-shirts. kerry sucks too, but i'll vote for him because he's not bush. is the next band on? i hope they say something about the election, i'll clap."
all of a sudden, every kid who didn't give two shits before is now a political analyst. 13 year old kids who have not one thing at all to do with this election or whatever presidency comes of it can't get enough of the "not my president" t-shirts.
and then there are the republicans, minding their own business and taking everything in stride. god forbid a singer of a hardcore band supports the republican party! he should be banned from the stage! my friends and i should beat up after the show, he deserves it for having a different opinion than me, that fucking faggot.
i'm sick of it. i'm going to go to the poll and vote for john kerry and john edwards next week. if you want to vote for george bush, i do not give two fucks. if you want to write your dog's name in the ballot, go ahead. YOU'RE AN AMERICAN. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE FOR WHOMEVER YOU WANT TO, AND I'M NOT GOING TO BE ONE TO ACT LIKE YOU DON'T.
