This weekend, I attended the Fall Knitting Retreat in Seattle. OMG was it ever so much fun.
I flew out on Wednesday and stayed with Auggie and Zorro, with their Human (
stereobare ). Auggie wasn’t too sure of the visitor and Zorro just wanted to sleep a bit. Poor thing. Bob was kind enough to arrange lunch with
snowboardjoe . So, we had burgers at some place that now comes up as Kidd Inc on my bank statement. Funny, I thought. It was great meeting both of them and I have pictures to prove it. But, they are either on the camera or they are on the netbook. I should upload them just so you all can see the proof.
After we dropped Joe off at his new place of employment, you know, the building that doesn’t say Microsoft anywhere on it. We went downtown to view all the fun stuff like the Public Fish Market and that space needle thing. Again, I have pictures. Bob has pictures too. I know he posted one of Facebook. Well, several. Ok, four. Our car tour took us around the needle and I took fly by pictures. We have to see if they have turned out. That should be interesting. After that, we found parking and went down to the Market. First, we stopped by Hard Rock Café so that I could meet Matt, one of Bob’s friends. OMG, the fellow is sexy. Very sexy. Just sayin… After a conversation and hugs, we went down into the heart of the market. I got mom’s tourist trash (a small gold piggy bank to hold her whore profits, hahahah) and I wanted a long sleeved tee to wear at the retreat. There were none to be had so Bob suggested we go back to the Hard Rock and see what they have. Of course, we stopped by the original Starbucks and walked back through the streets taking in all the people. We returned and I asked Matt if he had some long sleeve tees I could buy. Of course he didn’t but he did direct me to a few teeshirts. I went ahead and bought them because they were cool. The blue one was nice and then I bought the one that Matt was wearing. The HRC Woody shirt. I know, it gave me a woody too. Matt gave me his discount and a nice hug for giving me the discount. Sigh…
I have to applaud Bob’s patience. You see, I was turned around 180 degrees in Seattle. North was south and south was north. I got us lost on the way to the retreat center. We went north instead of south… or south instead of north… hmm… Something like that.
I got all checked in and stuff and oh my were there men knitting. It was uber fun to see the guys I met from the East Coast retreat. Troy, Andy, Joe (who is now my yarn daddy!!!), and a few others. The swag from these things is amazing. I got me a set of interchangeable needles. Wow. That was nice. I also took a cast on workshop at 9:30 at night. Ugh. I remember a few things, but that is about it. I will have to send Tom a note. The next day we went to Skacel, a distributor of needles and yarn. I bought yarn. Good thing I did my research and decided what I wanted to buy before I left. I had a list. I had interchangeable needles on my list, but I crossed them off because I got a new set! YAY! More spent on yarn! Then the lady that owns the company invited us to her house for dessert and cocktails. The house was interesting. It had a Chuluy light fixture and turquoise walls with red trim with turquoise couches and love seats. Red chairs. It was truly a splash of color. Her son, omg handsome!, provided the ice cream and cupcakes. It was rather a great time. We also had a preview of new crochet hooks and they appeared to be toothbrush like. I don’t know if I liked them.
The next day, I got to dye my own yarn in indigo. OMG was that fun. You see, when you put the yarn in this murky pot, it turns bright green-yellow. I wouldn’t expect that from a blue dye. So, then we swished it around in there and then pulled it out. It became blue right before our eyes. You kept dipping the yarn in the pot until you got the shade you wanted. Each time, it had a funky green cast to it. Amazing. I did some wool and then a skein of bamboo. Fascinating stuff. That night, we watched Young Frankenstein and Hairspray (newest) and knitted. I was sad to go the next day.
At least I didn’t have any major epiphany or anything like I did last time. I did think about what I need to do at home and what we can start doing to get the house in shape. I haven’t been keeping up with stuff for the last year. I just didn’t have it in me. Frankly, that job sucked too much of my life from me. I am bitter. Yes, still. I need to put it there in the past somehow.
And that was my weekend. Good fun with a bunch of great guys.
