Out of the job interview, into the doctor's office...

May 24, 2007 15:38

No running this morning, but I will be biking 1/2-mile over to the doctor's office this afternoon.

I'm back from New Jersey! The trip was brutal. Over the period of 37 hours I spent 11 hours flying, 5 1/2 hours driving and got only 4 1/2 hours of sleep. The lack of sleep is attributed to severe coughing (asthma or allergy related I suspect) that kept waking me up both the night before my interview and last night. That's the reason for my doctor visit today. The 11 hours of flying weren't too bad because I was flying Jet Blue which has comfortable seats and DirecTV (5 episodes of Law & Order spin-offs on the flight home!)

The interview & campus visit were great. My teaching presentation went off without a hitch. The faculty asked some questions during my presentation, so I was able to demonstrate my ability to be interactive within a formal presentation. The interview was friendly. The faculty panel had some prepared questions, so it felt somewhat formal; however, I was more relaxed with them than I was during my interview for my February interview for the Housing Assistant position (which was with people I have worked with and for a job I was pretty much guaranteed!) The second interview, with the college's President and Vice-President over academics, was even more informal. The questions were more along the lines of getting-to-know you. Some were more direct - mostly probing to determine my comfort with moving cross-country - but for the most part I was involved in a discussion about Ocean County's mission and vision for the future.

I really feel good about my performance and chances for the job. The advantage of being first is that I get to set the standard; however, it means I can't "read" anything about the other candidates from my treatment by the interviewers. Oh well! I could hear from them as early as the end of next week, but should definitely know the outcome by June 8th. If the job is mine, I'll know soon because they call you for that. If not, the snail mail from New Jersey is at least five days, so it'll be later.

I'll save telling you about all of the wonderful things about New Jersey and the job opportunity until I have heard from them - and then only if I get the job - no sense in getting everybody's hopes up (it's hard enough that my hopes are up!)

One other thing: my hopes are up, but I've prayed a lot about this, and every time I do I pray that the Lord will direct me and my family where he wants us. I know that if I don't get this job, then it was not what is best for us at this time. I can see many good things resulting from my getting this job; however, I cannot see the "end from the beginning." He can, and so I trust Him to guide me at this time. I also know, from a very strong personal experience, that if I am not offered the job He will help me know and feel that it is the right decision for me.

Hoping for a phone call - but trusting in my Heavenly Father,
Brad
