Live from Vividcon part 2 (sort of)

Aug 19, 2008 11:45

The con's over and we're on our way downtown to see the sights today, but I just wanted to drop a quick note to let everyone know how things went.

-The Action show was not to everyone's taste, which is what I knew would happen going in - we were bringing a totally different set of aesthetics to many of the con-goers. But those who came (and stayed) seemed to REALLY love it, and that included several vidders who've been doing this since the 70s. I feel like the show opened some eyes about different approaches and also just entertained people. More details soon.

-The premiere show was, in my opinion, more consistently strong than last year's show. Everything was greeted by raucous applause. And there are a TON of awesome vids heading you guys way in the next few days. Recs coming soon.

-The anonymous challenge show was a HUGE surprise - just as strong as the premiere show in my opinion. If you're getting a DVD set from the con, definitely don't overlook those vids. Some of the best in the entire show were there.

-Club Vivid rocked in a seriously dangerous way. It was the highlight of the weekend for me, and there were a TON of incredible premiering vids in Club Vivid. Again, expect recs soon.

-People were extremely nice. I don't know why I would expect them to NOT be, but... wow. Nice.

-There were 26 Doctor Who/Torchwood vids at the con. Schnikes. As a non-fan I felt kind of left out. One of them happens to be the best DW vid I've ever seen and one of the best I've seen in ANY fandom. But just generally I was very Doctor Who-weary by the end.
