i suppose i'm due for one

there's way too much going on for me to not write a huge-ass update, but i feel like that happens way too often, so i'll paraphrase as much as i can. its been almost two months now since the Glenview Stingers won the WCHL green division championship!

The girls were awesome and held themselves together for 4 games in 36 hours to claim the title. sure, green is the lowest competitive division in our league, but the progress these girls have made has been nothing short of phenomenal. they remained composed and energetic for 4 very close games. friday night of the tournament saw us against U of Illinois, whom we were 3-1 against during the season. They brought their best, but it wasn't quite enough as we beat them 2-1 to meet U of Wisconsin saturday morning. We hadn't faced them all year since they were in the north conference, but they were the only team in the north-green, so they played a blue schedule all year and still got thrown in our playoffs. They played tough. What would have been the game winning goal was waved off. The UW goalie reached behind the line to scoop a puck out. We went through 15 minutes of overtime and 5 rounds of a shootout before they scored on us to win.

Luckily, the tournament was double-elimination, so we'd get another shot, but that meant we'd have to play U of I again saturday night. They came out on the ice with renewed vigor, really wanting to knock us off, but we wore them down in the third period and scored two goals to reinforce bekki's shutout performance to get us a rematch with UW for the championship sunday morning. Sunday was another extremely close game. Both goalies were phenomenal and play was rough. The Stingers scored first and held the lead, but UW scored to tie the game up, and the 1-1 deadlock stood. We feared going to another overtime, but Amy scored the game winner with 2:30 left in regulation and our team buckled down on defense and held the lead. Facing exhaustion after playing four games in less than 48 hours, the stingers took a victory lap while their coaches (George and I) watched proudly from the bench. The stingers busted their asses all season and deserved every bit of the division title.

Now for the paraphrasing part. Brett and I found a new house. We'll be representing the 773 in Edison Park (very NW corner of chicago) with none other than Greg Palmier! Greg and I have been friends going on 9 years now, and though we've lived across the hall and down the street from each other, and we've spent 11 days in a car together, we've never shared a place. Its going to be way wicked gnarly bad cool. Housewarming party details coming soon;) Well, maybe not too soon...we don't even move until the end of the month.

Work has been totally insane. this past saturday was only my second day off in the last month. The pre-opening events for the museum were so insane that the foundation ended up getting me a hotel room for two nights so i wouldn't have to drive back to the suburbs at midnight just to drive back to the city at 5 the next morning. hopefully i'll be able to return to a normal life now that the museum is open and running (mostly) smoothly. that's all for now. maybe i'll post another huge update in a month
