chicago, on the other hand, has the supporting cast without the superstar presence, so its basically a bunch of good prospects trying to teach themselves. so i guess, to answer your question after much drunken rambling, i'd say you're goddamn lucky to have joe thornton in san jose. if he ended up in chicago i would have shit myself. as it stands, you're much closer to making the playoffs with the team you're building in san jose than we are with the team our ownership is constantly destroying in chicago. so you may not make the playoffs this year, but at this rate you'll make them alot sooner than we will.
although thornton's goofy red beard totally clashes with shark teal.
hopefully thornton and cheechoo can do what guys like yzerman and shannahan have been doing in detroit...teaching the young guys. guys like datsyuk and zetterberg wouldn't be where they are today without the veteran leadership. sturm and stuart couldn't lead the young guys, and it seems like thornton, marleau and cheechoo aren't really doing it either, unless they just need more time.
the situation in chicago is more dire, unfortunately, because the management are a bunch of cheapskates, and instead of hiring veteran leadership, they hired veteran uselessness (lapointe, brown, dowd, barnaby...). chicago has great young players, but no one to teach them, because our veterans are douche bags and our coach is a tool.
