Miyako:
Writing: Just like Zarrah’s, it has a really nice flow and it’s easy to read. There has never been anything written too rushed or too drawn-out.
Characterization: I’ve really enjoyed Miyako’s journey throughout the game from the careless, hyperactive jokester to the real Miyako: a really insecure little girl who tries her hardest to stay proper and uses her jokes and loudness to forget about her problems. There’ve been a few really interesting storylines so far. Her intense jealousy for her older sister who stayed the apple of the eye of the family even after she died, the way she bonded with the nice girls to escape reality but eventually ended up loathing them because she’s being seen as a clone, demanding parents, befriending a girl she originally hated (Aimi), and her love for Kaz.
Every one of them has been fleshed out to the max and I specifically liked Miyako’s slow transition from being positive and thinking there’s a way out to being completely hopeless and helpless (partially because of her wound - great use of it, by the way) and her struggle against it.
There is one characterization thing I didn’t like that much and that was the kissing scene. I think the intentions were good and I highly enjoyed reading Miyako’s thought process during it, but I do think that the message could’ve come across just as well by sticking to one kiss only.
Things I’d still like to see: Miyako bullying Fuuka, Hana and Nobuku. I believe she made fun of them in the first post and I think it’d give Miyako another layer. More of Miyako’s relationship to her parents (without Ayane being involved), Miyako’s friendship with Yuu, possibly some thoughts on Miki and Emi as they attacked her and all, Ayane’s death, and of course her respond to Kaz dying.
(N)PC control: Yuya, Harumi, Kaz, the nice girls, and Aimi have all been used and developed really well. However, Aimi stuck around for way too long, to the point that it was - while greatly written - becoming repetitive because there wasn’t much else for Miyako to do. But the way Miyako was set free - by being wounded and Aimi dying in front of her - really seemed to give Lili a push for characterizing Miyako. I really liked her responds to her two kills and her friendship with Kaz.
One NPC use that I didn’t like so much, however, was Hikari’s. I’ve said it before: she was too much of the Voice Of Reason, it seemed like her blindness was the only flaw she had. Given, others made her this way, too, and much worse.
I’ve liked Miyako a little bit more all along, but I feel like Zarrah has really gotten every bit of characterization out of her character possible, while with Miyako there are a few things left unexplained. I feel like I know them and I feel for them both, which makes this so hard… ugh…
Emi wins… but by just a nose-length, I think her last post dragged me over to her side, though admittedly, I changed my mind a few times while writing this vote. Lili did an amazing job too and I wish the both of you good luck in this vote.
