I don't get self-inserts. Even when I first started writing pokemon fan fiction at thirteen, I wouldn't even think of inserting myself into a story outside of those stupid author notes I used to do or in parody. I know there's a little bit of ourselves in original characters (and sometimes canon characters) but to outright name your main

I enjoy reviewing, but my main problem is my reviews tend to take a long time to write, thanks to overly-detailed-ness and multitasking and so on. I still have a text file on my computer containing a lengthy review of the first chapter of some trainer fic somebody posted a couple of years ago that hadn't even gotten past the second paragraph yet - I always meant to finish it but it ended up just being pretty clear the author wasn't ever actually going to continue it, so it never got finished or posted.
I did get to do a nice chunk of reviewing for the Perspective contest, though. That was a pretty fun experience; it's nice to actually get a taste of the writing of all these people you see around at the forums all the time. Though again there one of the reviews ended up longer than the majority of the entries and I'm still tinkering with them (the other day I randomly went and rewrote half of several of them). I need to learn to review in some remotely time-efficient manner. I can do that when most of the review is just fangirling, but not really otherwise.

Yeaaaah, I'm falling into the opposite problem now. I'm starting to pump out reviews relatively quickly that I kind of forgot how to do long, detailed reviews. x_X I also feel ... deflated when I spend a long time on a review and the response to it is lackluster, if that's not too vain to say. But I figure as long as I'm saying something useful and looks like I actually read the story, it'll make the author feel nice.
Judging in contests was a really, really nice experience. Glad you have fun with it. =P If you don't mind me asking, when will the results be posted?
