I don't get self-inserts.  Even when I first started writing pokemon fan fiction at thirteen, I wouldn't even think of inserting myself into a story outside of those stupid author notes I used to do or in parody.  I know there's a little bit of ourselves in original characters (and sometimes canon characters) but to outright name your main character after yourself and have him/her do things/act in ways that you do in real life?  It's odd to me.  It's even odder when people name their character after their online name.  Saber's and Mix's stories are painful  for me to think about.  I'm not sure if it's because the names are so outlandish that it's GLARING AT YOU IN THE FACE or because no one, for the longest time, actually told them, "Seriously?  You want to name your character after your online name?"  Those stories had such a big following that it really makes me cringe that no one really ... said anything, not until it was way too late.  (Yes, I know people have said something eventually; I do read your old LJs. ;P)

I'm not sure why I'm bringing this up.  I think it went "I wonder what the current fan fic fad is on SPPf" then went back into the old fads, which of course lead me back to chosen fic, which reminded me of the authors of those fics, which reminded me of self-inserts.  I don't know if we have a current trend going on.  I mean besides the B/W swarm of fics popping up which I can't review because I haven't played it yet.

I kind of like SPPf's community now.  It is pretty drama-less and boring in ways but for once we don't really have silly people spouting nonsense.  None that I know of anyway.  I mean, all we really have is Matt-I-am-going-to-force-my-story-down-your-throat-until-you-choke-0044 and even he's not that bad compared to what we're all used to.  It kind of seems less cliquey in ways but that might be because there's not one sole fic running right now that is dominating the community.   I think.  Feel free to point some out. =P

For the most part, I am digging the new content on the stories.  Admittedly I am a bit skewed because I am sort-of-kind-of-okay-I-am ignoring the super newbie fics.  (Hey, if I'm going to be reviewing on a relatively daily basis, I'm going to at least enjoy it. =P)  A good number of them have intriguing concepts or at least offer a new spin on an "older" concept even if they're not super clean or even if some are completely "Uh, what?"  It's not boring for me at least.

WE COULD USE MORE EXPERIENCED REVIEWERS, THOUGH.  Wink, wink.  I love that the active batch of reviewers because they're trying to improve themselves as writers and reviewers, though they do seem to be sticking around each other (there's not enough of them to be a threat, no worries).  I don't know why but we also have a crapton of new stories/chapters updated per day.  It could be the excitement over the new games, but some of them aren't even B/W based.

On a side note ...

Quote Breezy: That's an awesome prompt line, Ysarvvyl. Definitely have to think about it since all I can think about is smutty smut smut. ^ I think a smutty smut fanfic would be awesome so long as it was anywhere but serebii XD,serious I would ready that
,well for blue skies would come first on my list but then there'd be that XD I can imagine this kid with his nose bleeding and panting heavily and eagerly just thinking of a smutty fic. That imagery pleases and creeps me out at the same time.

rambles, sppf
