Its an active volcano this time

Two weeks ago, I was part of a small group that attempted Mt Adams. This past weekend, I lead a larger group on Mt St Helens. We set out in four well defined groups, but set acceptable paces for each of us, scattering into 8 smaller groups. Each one had at least one experienced climber, so no worries.

The weather started reasonably, but we had a scare when the clouds thickened up around us. They cleared off again, but never enough for the dashing views of last year. At the crater rim, the clouds were a solid wall looking north depriving us of the interior and the ranges stretching to Mt Rainier.

I ran my descent, doing a 3.5hr climb in just over 1hr. Alas that that is my highlight.

Finally, most of us stopped for dinner that evening. Meals small and large were had by all. I packed away a 1/2lb yak chuckwagon (think French Dip) along with a 1/2lb of shrimp, rolls, fries, and a milkshake.
