Saturday saw Liverpool dominate West Brom and come away with a 3-0 victory. An excellent result.
Wednesday was not so great. Liverpool made 10 changes from the team that played on Saturday, and only had four regular first-team players in the starting eleven. And actually one of those had only played a couple of times this year, and Torres was back from injury. The back line struggled, making many mistakes. The midfield were not aggressive onto the ball, missed passes, and had difficulty moving it upfield. Mike Riley (the referee) made some fucked up decisions that had a serious influence on the game. Spurs attacked the ball, made aggressive runs, and scored three goals in the last six minutes of the first half. Final result was 4-2, knocking the Reds out of the Carling Cup. Disappointing, but not totally a bad thing, as it allows us to concentrate on the most important prize this year - the Premiership.
This coming Saturday Liverpool travels to Reebok Stadium to play Bolton. I went to this fixture on one of my trips to the UK and poor refereeing had a major impact on the result. I'm hoping that will not be the case this year. The lads will be wanting a big win to shake off the midweek fiasco, and all the key players will be rested and ready for a good match. Kick-off is at 7:45am, and I will be at the Brewhouse to watch it.
I don't think there are any midweek games next week, but on the 22nd Liverpool will play host to Fulham.
