For the printer you have to set up the desktop to share it. Same goes for directories, with the possible exception of the Windows default "Shared Files" folder.
What encryption standard are you using on the wireless connection? I ask because WEP is broken and can be easily cracked. WPA is much better. I mention this largely because I know people who are still using WEP, unaware of its lack of security.

Uh... Not true. I'm doing desktop XP / laptop Vista and I share files and the printer across my wireless no problem.

The Ethernet cable may be trickier.
Why? Just get a longer cable, no? I think I have some reaaaaally long Ethernet cables that I'm not using, if you need one.
