airport diary, pt 2

I'm in Detroit now -I had a 6 hour layover (don't know how that happened, I must not have paid attention when I bought the ticket online) so I paid for a day's membership to one of those airline club/lounge things. I won't say how much I paid for it, but it was only about twice as much as the wifi costs in the part where all the normal people have to sit. I can have the wifi and I can drink beer (not too much!) and eat cookies (not too manay!) and cheese and read newspapers and sleep and store my stuff in a locker and be waited on at the same time. It felt like a good idea at the time. I gave presents to most of my family, and I bought presents for most of my friends in Turkey. I filled only 1 small duffel bag and 1 backpack. My sister came to KC from San Francisco for 4 days with 3 times as much. girls!

America hasn't changed much, I guess. There is always a new way to spend money, but its all the same stuff, just packaged differently. I'm so weak when it comes to spending money (airline lounge), so I know it's good for me to be out of America these months. There are 2 new shopping malls in KC which are outdoor malls and made to feel like a downtown area, even though it's all the same junk. I bought some of that junk. My big brain told me it I couldn't live without that shirt, or those speakers for my ipod, or that frisbee (it was right about the frisbee).

I bought some books too, it was great to be in a bookstore with so many English titles. I bought Vonnegut's new book, his last, just like he said last time and some other book about the end of American dominance and how it's coming soon. There are so many opinions to be bought anymore. So many armageddon-sayers who can publish a book SO much easier than they could 25 years ago. Global warming, Consumerism, Suburbanism, Conservatism -these things will ruin us! Anyway, I only bought 2 opinions, carefully selected from thousands of choices.

I have a nice spot in the lounge where I can see the planes land and I don't have to look at ugly Detroit (sorry Mo, Ann Arbor is great!). A rapper's funeral was here yesterday, he had been shot by a rival rap mogul evidently. Eminem and Dr. Dre attended. It's in the papers, right next to an article about the downfall of Detroit and how the SuperBowl, which will be here next year, could possibly be a saving grace. There was a book about the downfall of Detroit at the bookstore.

My meals from the last 9 days: Fajita Taco Salad (Tampico, Leavenworth), Avacado Chimichuri (FreeState, Lawrence), Cheesburger with bacon (Cheeseburger in Paradise (lame but tasty), Kansas City), Cheeseburger (Wendy's, Olathe), Spaghetti (Matt and Karen's house, Olathe), Waffle and eggs (Waffle House, North Kansas City), Pancakes (Mom's Apt, Leavenworth), Veggie sandwich (Subway, Clinton, MO), Ham and Potatoes and Mac and Cheese and Salad (Granny's house, Bucyrus, MO) X2, Taco Soup and potatoes and green beans (other Granny's house, Urbana, MO), Ham and fresh bread (granny's house, Urbana, MO), Pepperoni and Pineapple pizza (Papa Keno's, Lawrence), Fajita Taco Salad (Kansas City, MO), Steak and eggs and pancakes (IHOP, Overland Park), Salmon and Rice (mom's Apt, Leavenworth), Tortilla Caserole (mom's apt, Leavenworth), Shanghai Pork (Bo Ling's, North Kansas City). And there were a few small bags of Cheeto's and airline food. This is my normal diet, if not healthier -I haven't gained weight in 2 years.

Enough Cynicism! I had tons of fun seeing everybody and I hope to come back the next time for longer. I want to go to California to see friends and maybe I'll apply to go to grad school next winter, anything could happen! I'm updating my resume this week, because things are changing at Prep2Go I heard... who knows what will happen! Exclaimation point!!!
