Usually when you know you're gonna be away from someone you care about for an extended period of time, it can put you in a bad mood. That nice comfort won't be there like it always is, even if just for a week. So I wouldn't sweat it Lyn. I mean, you can't say you were a little bothered that he would be away for a week, am I right?

As for the ring... I say go for it, but don't call it a "promise ring". Just when you give it to him, say what you posted: "...but just so that whenever he's feeling insecure about me cheating, or whatever, he can look down and know that i'm always gonna be there for him" Saying that will make him smile. :) I promise.
