still posting... (live from washington d.c.)

Oh hi folks,

Live from Washington D.C.

yes it's me boxboogie and i guess it's time to post something up since my last one in july. So many things have happened since then but i am always thankful to have my family, friends, and kasamas to be there and support me; and vice versa of course lol.

I'm here in washington d.c., had a stopover from charlotte, north carolina as well. The place is actually beautiful and breathtaking unlike those in power who are corrupt and will steal the oxygen out of you. The plane trip ride getting here wasn't so bad and in fact the people I've been meeting along the way are very nice and helpful. Although i still get lost at times, at least i made it. Yeah, i know, I can't believe that i finally traveled by myself again in a place i've never been before, lol. I'm growning up, hahaha.

Well to sum up the reason why i'm actually here in d.c., is because my group from the Master's in Public Health are here to present our work for a public health conference. For more information check out this link:

Talking with Friends

Anyways, I'm getting to learn more from my friends/classmates from my group (Nayeli, Roz, and Teresa), just like the stuff we talk about: family, friends, relationships, work, and even organizing (sort of, to some degree, lol). Had an interesting discussion on all the memorials, such as the fact that many people are left out. If you think about it, why are certain people there and why folks aren't. (Which "actually helps propagate and justify war in a way" according to my friend)

Also, when one friend asked me about Daly City and why Filipinos migrated to there specifically, I couldn't answer the question at the moment. And then after talkin with Alan, was reminded that there's a lack of research on that topic. That's right, thanks alan. still so much work to do.

Yeah so just sharing stories about my experiences and then learning about my friends who were born in Mexico and in the Philippines. Cool beans. I haven't presented in the conference yet, but i'm so glad to have gone to Washington D.C.already. On a side note: I'm even more stoked to go back to BSB.

Lastly, it pays to have friends who can get hook ups for a free hotel stay, lol. but i'm still broke, boo!

What I've Seen

Not much just so far in the few hours i've been here: tall buildings, expensive places to eat and shop, and fancy clubs and restaurants. Dinner for 2 for $145, probably not for me. eek. Still see homeless people even in D.C. I guess freedom can't buy people homes, weak sauce.

Don't worry i'll take pictures of all the areas i visit including the conference. It'll probably help explain what i've said in this journal. If you made it this far thanks for reading and here's the upcoming journal topics for this year:

*Happy Birthday: A Scoripio's Revenge
*Piece for Spring Flip Da Skript (title and actual poem in progress)
*Special Haterade Edition 2: I Still Hate the Game, but a little more accepting of things (oh and i'll probably ask for guest writers lol)
*My tears and laughter: the warmth and struggles shared by Kasamas
