Some things I have learned...

May 22, 2005 19:31

Just some things I learned over my first year of college:

Life is not easy no matter where you are or how much freedom you have.
Boys still suck... even in college.
Life at home goes on without you.
Sometimes God gives you a miracle when you step outside of your comfort zone.
I like pink.
The freshman 10-15 is NOT a myth...
Generally potluck roomies freshman year are a nightmare. You aren't alone!
It is true that you have more free time in College. What people don't tell you, is you generally need to use most of that free time for homework if you want to keep scholarships.
Spring Break for college students is VERY sketchy...
Interim is the best invention ever. Every college should be lucky enough to experience it.
You should be more concerned about meeting your bridesmaids in college and not so concerned about boyfriends.
Sometimes getting pulled over can be very funny.
Cooking smores in the dorm hallway at midnight is a great bonding experience.
Hall showers are the highlight of my week.
God is continually at work in my life. I just didn't see it as much before this year.
Losing your pet can be harder than losing a relative (yes, there are definitely exceptions).
Sledding downhill on a table is NOT a smart idea no matter how fun it looks.
The doctors in Spartanburg have about the same amount of medical knowlede I have.
There are still some true gentleman in the world.
There are no secrets at Wofford (so, don't try to hide anything... we will eventually find out) :)
Parking your car on the road in the ghetto of downtown Spartanburg is just asking for it to be broken into.
Roadtrips in Big Red are always an adventure.
God is so wonderful! I fall in love with him more and more each day!
"This is a spoon. A what? A spoon. A what? A spoon. Oh! a spoon!" and elementary school hand clapping games are still highly entertaining...
I'm not meant for Hollywood.
Your friends become your family for the next 8-9 months.
Coming back home is hard.
You will experience things, good and bad, that you have never experienced before... somtimes at 4 AM during mid-terms.
You will grow apart from your childhood friends no matter how much you claim you won't.
People are not always who you think they are.
Get used to being broke and tired.
It is not possible to go to bed before 1 AM (and that's a good night).
Two college girls carrying a couple of cans of sterno around Wal-Mart at midnight does look sketchy. Be prepared to answer questions!
Crush Parties are a wonderful stress reliever (just be sure to get homework and studying finished early because you WILL have class the next day).
Wofford in the spring is breath taking.
The squirrels on campus are definitely on crack (they are from the ghetto.. what do you expect?)
Roger Milliken is obsessed with carpet art and trees...
Milliken is a great place for afternoon naps.
You will never leave Burwell satisfied... this is the cause of the freshman 15.
I will spend a fortune developing pictures this summer for a scrapbook... develop pictures as you go!
It is possible to survive Botany.
Calculus is from the devil.
Fitzgerald is simply amazing and I'm even more in love with him than I was in high school.
Nothing with Dr. Rayner is straight-forward no matter how many times he tells you it is. He simply missed the memo on the definition of the word.
Plants are not interesting.
Singing at the top of your lungs with your best friends is good for the soul.
Eating on the floor of friends' rooms can be so much fun.
The roomie being boo in the foo with her boyfriend is a great excuse for a hall sleepover!
It is possible to beat the rooming system as a sophmore and be on the hall with 12 of your best friends.
Riding a see-saw for 30 minutes straight is not healthy for your butt...
Don't be afriad to laugh, live, love, get hurt, cry a little, lose sleep, make a bad grade here and there, dress up like a nerd, white trash, or someone stuck in the 80's.
These are going to be the best years of my life. Thank you to all of my friends.. I love you so much. Thanks for being there for me. We have had lots of ups and downs but you have helped me see the person I am and accept myself no matter what! I am going to miss you all, but in September we will all be together in DuPre!!! Get excited and have a wonderful summer!
