I didn't get home in time to watch it and weirdly enough, I think I'm glad. Jump the Shark reminded me why I <3 SPN, this episode would have reminded me why it makes me want to beat my head against a wall.
The nasty side of me would theorize that the whole Castiel thing was just to indulge the fans because FANS LOVE HOT MISHA COLLINS ANGEL!! and make Dean/Castiel the new Sam/Ruby but eh. The nice side would just think that Jared and Jensen were happy that they got to sleep more. Maybe.
As for the demon blood thing, at this point I just don't care. They kind of started at Point B, skidded around Point C, and will probably end up at Point D via a shortcut. I am hoping that next week's won't disappoint. Sera Gamble said "be careful what you wish for" in relation to Sam's head so who knows...
I loved "JtS", too! It's an excellent example of how a new character can be properly used as a foil for the main characters. I liked the new depth it gave to John, it made him a million more times interesting (to me, at least). I thought casting for Adam was well done; that kid could act, horray. \o/

I wish I could say that thought didn't cross my mind. It did feel a little self-indulgent. I don't mind fan service when it's played for laughs ("TMatEoTB") or doesn't detract from the story, but when it feels like it's taking over the story for the sake of taking over the story then I think it's probably best to put it where it belongs (in the fandom box).
Sera Gamble said "be careful what you wish for" in relation to Sam's head so who knows...Generally, I'm OK with Gamble's episodes. Sometimes her plots are a little convoluted, but I think she's got her fingers on Sam's pulse more than any other writer in that writer's room (dare I

Hehe. Yeah, the kid was good. I kind of had to stare vacantly at his vacant stare quite a bit but the more I think about it the more that's one of my favorite - if not THE favorite - episode of S4 because it was so, so back to basics. And no mytharc / angels n demons!! Just think - considering the episode was written by the people who did Yellow Fever, which was blah, then After School Special, which was good-ish, to JtS, which was awesome, it means their next episode will be Emmy-worthy. Or such. I don't know if they'll be kept on or not, at this point I actually hope they do. Also I hope that Humprhis can get more than 2 episodes...
I did see two meta/reviews today that pointed out that Jimmy was a mirror to SamnDean, especially Sam, but not seeing the episode, I can't judge. I can say that at this point any time I do hear someone mention "Oh Castiel's got quite a story..." I automatically flinch and decide whatever it is is just Not For Me. Even more disappointing than that is that this was a Jeremy Carver episode and

OK, I can't be bothered to look up the html code for making my font white because...
WHAT?!?!?!?!?! OMG, I read your spoiler!!!! \o/ I knew the former person was going to be in the episode but I had NO CLUE about the latter. *FLAILY FLAIL* I adore that person to an unbelievable degree. OMG. You think the two guest stars will be in the same scene!??!? OK, yeah, I know in canon that's an impossibility but I long for a scene where guest star #1 cuddles (!!!) or talks to or gets to interact with guest star #2 because that would ONLY BE FAIR in the sea of unfairness and epic tragedy Sam's been afloat in all his life.
OK, I will have to reply about all your writery comments (because I have MANY) when I calm down. *breathes* Thursday is so far away....
^.^;; I am no 100% but it is on imdb so I'm trusting their casting info at least.
But I agree with the squee - those are two actors that I really really want to see Jared play against because he's going to nail it and then smash it for good measure. Just going by the previews it seems like demon detox means lots and lots of hallucinations which means that everyone could have lots and lots of "You're not real" interactions. <3 <3 I'm afraid of these interactions though because you -know- Sam's getting played. Although a part of me is very very suspicious that at least one of those guest stars is going to be an angelic hallucination meant to sneak Sam into his "rightful prophetic place"...
\o/ Hallucinations! And also judging by the preview limp!Sam. You know, one of my favorite incarnations of Sam is limp!Sam followed closely by bloodyhurtbutnotdying!Sam followed closely by angst-o-rama!Sam. Oohooo, I think we may be getting all 3 in one episode! *dances* The only way this could possible get better is if Jess showed up and we got a glimpse of happy-carefree-Stanford!Sam in puppy dog love. So I'm a sap.
Although a part of me is very very suspicious that at least one of those guest stars is going to be an angelic hallucination meant to sneak Sam into his "rightful prophetic place"...
I find it fascinating you used the words "angelic hallucination" rather than "demonic hallucination". I like Heaven being this ruthless entitity not above using people as pawns, a means to an end without really caring about the effects on their psyches or friends/family. It's War, after all. *wink*
Hmmm - my favorite Sam I think is Take Charge Take No Prisoners yet still secretly Deeply Conflicted Sam, followed closely by adoring!brother Sam followed by His Own Person Dammit! Sam. I dunno, limp!Sam is nice but proactive!Sam is best

LOL! XD Oh, I think I love that! Indignant/self-righteous Sam is a sight.
I have heard that Jess was going to be in 4.02 but the schedule couldn't work out.
I would've wet my pants. Jess is one of the many reasons why I loved "WiaWSNB". She's been underutilized, but then I'm partial to her so I'm not exactly objective.
Even when she did show up in Monster, she didn't actually have all that much prescene considering she's supposed to be hell's new queen bitch.
This is why I liked Azazel. He was part of the story, more than just a name and looming (not very menacing presence as Lilith). Possessed little girls are creepy, but an adult Lilith who can articulate adult words and go toe-to-toe with the boys is much more satisfying for me. I was glad to see her FINALLY possessing a grown women in "TMatEoTB". Finally something juicy and "real". \o/
angels want to hurry up and get this Apocalypse thing on the road so that afterwards there can be that whole eternity of God's will going on.O.O :O !!! 8O

I was glad to see her FINALLY possessing a grown women in "TMatEoTB". Finally something juicy and "real". \o/ I was glad to see it too, although I was disappointed that they went insta-sex kitten route instead of letting Sam and Lilith have some serious discussion time. I was even more disappointed when I thought about the fact that Lilith's probably just a dead demon walking and then, except for the endgame, irrelevant. I would have liked a lot to see Sam having to deal with a tangible demon antagonist, as Alastair served for Dean. Lilith and Sam could totally hash out Sam's issues during a birthday party.
There's something to be said in the power of martyrdom; a leader (Lucifer) being "unjustly" (in the eyes of the Lucifer-following demons) punished and held against his will is exalted.Mm, that's interesting! I don't think Angel Inc. much cares about what's happening downstairs though unless somehow purging hell is in the program. But if all demons were humans (eggh hate that) and all humans are mudmonkeys, a purge may be in

It seems like most "female" demons have a thing for Sam (Meg, Ruby, Lilith). I'm not sure if it's intentional or the writers just like to add in sexual tension on top of them being the antagonist. But it's funny how the big bads just seem to want Dean DEAD/out of the way and want to get into Sam's pants.
There's mention of succubbi and Lilith (or something of the sort, I'd have to look it up) in John's journal, which got me thinking about the story Samuel and Lilith and their demon children. Not that I think Kripke would adopt this story as is for the mytharc, but it seems like bits and pieces of interesting lore are cut and pasted into the story and can influence the general direction of things.
I do wonder how the Trickster or other SPN gods feel about this whole shebang and I wouldn't mind seeing some of them again in response to this whole Apocalypse kerfluffleThe take the pagan gods have would be

But it's funny how the big bads just seem to want Dean DEAD/out of the way and want to get into Sam's pants. Hehe. It's because bad guys like it rough and Sam's all manbeast in bed. Dean however is fun but a "gentle" lover.
it seems like bits and pieces of interesting lore are cut and pasted into the story and can influence the general direction of things. Agreed. In retrospect it still seems like Sam could be the Boy King / Antichrist not because he's evil but he is involved in the Apocalypse and he could very well help break the final seal. Daggone I wish we'd had more Lilith time now... alhtough by saying that I fully acknowledge that if we'd have gotten it I might have been like "Man Lilith talks too much and creeps too little." I am a fickle one.

*snork* Well, Kripke does like to beat his identical opposites drum, doesn't he? ;)
but I DO think that he has less planned and more specific character points as the grand plan.
Yes, probably. Fuzzy vagueness... but he knows the ending and has told Gamble who concurs. *eee* I did see he "ItB" commentary. Krikpe seems to think we think he knows every little detail. Heh. If that were the case and he were an expert plotter than he wouldn't need to have a team of writer supporting him. Thank heavens for Edlund and Gamble, who I think help keep Kripke from running off the scales with swear words, pop culture references, and making "bitch" and "whore" every other word. Also he should never write sex scenes ever again and leave it up to Humphries and Gamble.
I will call foul if Sam's entire destiny is wrapped up in breaking a seal, but I'll be all right if it's something else.I'm really HOPING that we're going to see more of this "Boy King" idea and

Thank heavens for Edlund and Gamble, ... he should never write sex scenes ever again and leave it up to Humphries and Gamble I have to disagree on Ben Edlund - I think he's overall made many things worse. Good crack / humor episodes he can usually do; tight plotting he can either do well or badly (compare Nightshifter to Malleus) but going back to that... the absolute worst bitch/whore episode methinks was MM and that's all Edlund as far as I know. I'd take John Shiban back in an instant over Ben Edlund even though I think John Shiban had bigger plotholes
( ... )
Add to that that I am -mildly- hopeful that there is more to Sam than just a sealbreaker considering his eyes did turn black and Ruby was all "It was always going to be you." I am hoping that's important because it's come up before from her but ehh... we'll see. Lucky for the spoiler hogs that sides tend to come out late June to mid-July even though they've actually gotten sneakier about casting sides.
