How's everyone's Friday night, then? I had a great one, indeed. It was a long week of exciting anxiety, working more in the studio and laying down overdubs for T.V.(Tony Visconti), and tightening things up more. It was very pleasurable doing all these things again, but exhausting to say the least. Very trial and error. Friday night (and the rest of my weekend to come) were much awaited!
Last night Iman and I set it up with a sitter so that we could go out and goof off a bit in the city on our own. We had a late dinner at a nice restaurant, wandered around the city by foot, met up for a drink with friends. We don't usually go out for drinks either, but it was one of those times when you just feel it's appropriate. It was beautiful.
We got in quite late, but I was so energized by the outing and the start of the weekend, that I got up at 5AM today. Had coffee, went for a walk, started reading a book I really enjoyed (this will be the second time I've read it). It's called Iris, and it's written by John Bayley. An extremely moving book this. Highly recommend it. Iris and John met at Oxford and fell very much in love, and got married. She went on to become a foremost novelist and a philosopher; He, a Professor of English and literary critic. Later in their years, it became obvious to John that Iris was slowly falling under Alzheimer's disease. After finishing her last book and before its' publishing date Iris had spiraled into a helplessness that prevented her from reading, let alone understanding her own reviews. A great mind dissolving. Bayley writes beautifully and so movingly of their life together. I'm enjoying this all over again.
