In Hannover this week for a workshop on gravitational waves. BUT just gotta post a little bit about the glory of the German breakfast bar that I have just finished enjoying. It is like a museum of food, and you can go back as much as you like, always pulled in two directions: the sticks and twigs table is where you *should* be, but of course there are so many other areas. Very healthy fresh fruit table, with a do-it-yourself juicer, mix and match your jiuces and pull the handle yourself. The cheese board with everything from the sliced swiss to the almost-too-runny camembert and all the others in between. A pig section has prosciutto and salami and ham and black pudding and wurst a million kinds of echte deutsche schinken. There are four kinds of smoked fish, mackerel with and withut cream, as well as salmon with and without dill. Even the twigs section has sprinkles of nuts and wheatgerm and dried fruits to zero out the self-flagellation factor. And of course the hot counter with eggs and bacon and sausages and meatballs and tomatoes grilled with cheese. Breads from Wonderbread to baguette to bagel and five kinds of rolls, including my favorite with pumpkin seeds. Jams, honeys, nutella, pickles, six kinds of yogurt it just goes on and on. OK now I am all set up for the day. Will it be fascinating physics of extreme matter and the most perfect instruments to see it? Or will it be stutifyingly boring procedural matters about who is allowed to be in which committee? Your guess is as good as mine!
