Hi everybody! I know no one's checking LiveJournal anymore, but I felt like posting anyway.
My Thanksgiving was awesome. I went to my mom's house on Wednesday (had to wake up at 4:00am to catch the earliest train) where I helped her bake a maple pecan pie and a pumpkin pie and we also set the table. I found this beautiful napkin folding technique online called Bird of Paradise (if you've seen that kind of flower you can imagine what it looks like), which I used to add a special flair to the already beautiful dark blue tablecloth, light beige runner with an acorn pattern on it, dark red and white china with hand painted flowers on it, and shiny silver- and glassware that we used to set the table. Then on Thursday I made the stuffing. You cannot beLIEVE how amazing it smells even when it's just celery, onions, and sage being sauteed in a vat of butter. Ohmigod. Delicious.
We had some friends over - my mom's gay best friend, Tim, his husband, Mike, Tim's daughter, Rachel, her husband, Chris, and their two beautiful daughters Allison (2 years) and Megan (almost 1 year). Both of the little girls are just the most adorable little things you've ever seen. They're tiny and blonde and they were wearing matching pale leafy-green jumpsuits. Little Allison and I spent a lot of time together, first watching the birds on the feeder in my mom's backyard, and then running around and dancing and playing with a little cat toy I gave to her. I'd put the little cat on her head and she'd buck her head to throw it off -- and then giggle adorably. We did that for a while before they had to leave. She was really reluctant to go, so I made a deal with her. She had to put her shoes on before I would put the cat on her head again. She's so smart; she understood right away. :) I don't know what happened to that cat after the party. I had intended to give it to her, but I don't know if they took it or if they left it behind. Hopefully they did take it.
Then the next day, Friday, my mom and I went to see the 7th Harry Potter movie! I won't spoil anything; I'll just say that it was very faithful to the book, but also kind of slow paced. You remember all those long days and nights of aimless traveling while Harry figures out where the horcruxes could be? They're in there. :/ But it was good. You know the guy who played Slartibartfast (or however you spell that) in the Hitchhiker's Guide movie? He's the Minister of Magic. And the actor who played Luna's dad was pretty good. He looked like I imagined he would.
