Sometimes, life is full of surprises - of the good kind. Yesterday when my daughter asked her Dad if he was okay with her having a dozen friends over for her birthday, his response surprised her. "I have a better idea." REally? She's turning 23, and I don't think he's EVER had an idea re what to do for a birthday, so we were both intrigued. Turns out, his idea was a trip to Washington. This absolutely thrilled my daughter, who thinks getting to go to the Smithsonian is like winning the jackpot. Remember, this is the child that's learning to be a forensic anthropologist, and yup, they do lots of that at the Smithsonian. Of course this now means I have to put my planning hat on (which I love doing). I think we should drive - it's about an 8 hour drive from here, which isn't bad at all, and it means we'll have a car there, so no car rental fees. Definitely not flying out of Toronto at $400 a head (Buffalo was about $250 each was a lot better). Apparently we could also fly out of Niagara Falls, which is new, so I have to check that too.
I'm a big political science nerd (that was my major at university). So going to Washington is a big deal for me too. I'm so disgusted with the government here, and can't understand why the polls show that people look set to re-elect Stephen Harper. Why?! The man is the most secretive, devious man who has ever held the title of Prime Minister in Canada. Our country used to be seen as a shining example of how to have an open, transparent democracy. Not any more. We're way down that list now; all thanks to Harper. Bah!
On a different note, I was sad to read that "Off The Map" is listed as a tv show "not likely to be renewed. I like that show! Sigh. At least Bones is listed as "almost certain to be renewed", and Big Bang Theory has already been renewed. I've been watching Merlin on Space Channel, but I have no idea which season I'm watching. Just finished a 2-part season finale titled "The Coming of Arthur". I really need to look it up, because if it's the latest season, things aren't looking too good for a certain character's future. Hmmm.
Well, the leader's debate is on, so I better pay attention.
