Shit Happens

I'v been gone way too long from LJ. So, effective today, I'm going to change that. Although I have two broken bones in left wrist (yeah, I'm left-handed too, so that sucks) which makes typing a bit of a challenge. I don't even know how I did it. Just woke up this morning and my wrist starting hurting after lifting one of the cats (she's not THAT heavy). So, broken bones and tendonitis. On a positive note, our senior kitty just turned 20 and is doing better than ever. She's even putting on weight, which is fantastic. As well, my daughter finished her courses in her double Master of Science program in Scotland and wound up with an A- overall average (smiles proudly). She's doing her research and writing her thesis now, but she'll be home Aug. 20....can't wait! My husband, son, and MIL are all going to Scotland and will drive around the country with my daughter sightseeing for a week when she's done her program. My son and daughter will head to London for 4 days afterwards, while hubby and MIL head home. The kids are going to take a day and go to the Harry Potter studio which my sister says is phenomenal. I was going to go on the trip but I realized we can't bring in a housesitter for the cats; the elder kitty only eats when I feed her. I don't mind missing out - I spent 2 weeks over there last fall when she first went, and I would feel worse than awful if something happened to the elder kitty, or she wouldn't eat.

Also in the plus column, FanExpo in Toronto in August is getting Matt Smith! Also Sir Patrick Stewart AND William Shatner. And Matt Smith said he's likely to bring some "friends". My daughter and I always whine that we never get the really popular Doctor Who actors, so this is a huge deal for us. And getting both Star Trek captains on the same day - lots of excitement there too. I've never been to FanExpo as I can't be on my feet for long periods of time, but this year I am going.

In the minus column, I watched something on TV about drones, and I have to say their potential for creepiness is huge; they give the term "stalking" a whole new meaning. I get that Amazon thinks they'll be great for deliveries, but I don't like the idea that anyone can send drone to my home and just start filming. Why is this legal? Shouldn't you have a right to privacy in your own home?

Well, it's going to be dark soon so I have to get the elder kitty in. She's taken to wandering off occasionally if we forget to bring her in before dark. She's almost deaf and has cataracts so her vision isn't great; I don't know if she gets confused in the dark or what, but she's given us a couple of scares recently so now I if she's outside (99.9% of the time she's just sleeping on a blanket on a chair on the porch) I check on her regularly, and bring her in before it starts getting dark.

Back in the plus column - we found screening for our windows that the younger cat can't chew through!

I've missed a lot on LJ, but I'm enjoying going back through the things friends have posted.
