...why Obama
has to act like he hasn't spoken to Governor Blagojevich recently? It really doesn't look good to have to backpedal and call your chief of staff 'mistaken,' especially when talking to someone committing fraud doesn't mean you were also participating in it.
Especially given that there's
wiretapping evidence that Blagojevich had no hope of getting any grease under the wheels from the Obama camp:
'Nothing in the court papers suggested Obama had any part in the discussions about selling the Senate seat or even knew of them. In fact, Blagojevich was overheard complaining at one point that Obama's people are "not going to give me anything except appreciation." He added: "(Expletive) them." '
I feel as if they're running away from something unneccessarily here - I mean, it's the state governor. Everyone talks to a governor, especially a Senator whose seat the governor is thinking about replacing. Talking does not equal guilt, and I'm not aware of anyone casting aspersions on Obama before the did-he-talk-to-him-lately debate came up.
EDIT: Well, apparently people are
throwing around accusations...
"The serious nature of the crimes listed by federal prosecutors raises questions about the interaction with Gov. Blagojevich, President-elect Obama and other high ranking officials who will be working for the future president," said Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia, the new GOP House whip. Blergh Virginia.
I especially like this section of the article:
The two Illinois politicians have never been especially close and have largely operated in different Democratic Party camps in the state. Blagojevich's disdain for Obama was clear in court documents; he is quoted as calling the president-elect a vulgar term in one phone conversation recorded by the FBI.
It's just great the way that people who allow themselves to be caught on tape are so often crass, arrogant bullies...
