I've been reading over your shoulder the last few entries, knowing you suddenly had both parents within striking distance. Wanted to hear how that struck you.
For what it's worth, you don't "need" a parent's emotional or intellectual support. You can "want" it, desperately, of course. But they don't wield the button to your life support. They most certainly can supplement your strength, add to your resolve and give helpful hugs. But they don't hold sway over how it will all play out.
I'm cordial with my dad, and he gives me that emotional support you speak of. But our conversations only dance on the surface, because we know there are places/subjects where we just don't want to go...or where I sure as heck don't want to go. Conner told me that Dad and I don't act like father and son, and when compared to how Conner and I work together, it's a fair observation.
And Mom continues to support me from above, though I wish we had more time to talk.
Have a safe trip back. I'm off to a Dodgers baseball game today. Getting outta town and outta the house while Sara throws a heeeyoooge baby shower for my sister-in-law.
