Algiers

Regis (played by Gene Lockhart): "I'm an informant, not a hypocrite!"

What can I say, I loved this movie. Not only does it star Charles Boyer, Hedy Lamarr and Sigrid Gurie, but it inspired the script for the later made 'Casablanca', and... Pepe Le Pew!

There's drama, dark comedy, physical comedy, whimsy, beautiful locale, beautiful ladies, dashing leading man, snappy one-liners, lots of deceit, lying, unrequited love, treachery, backstabbing, murder...

It was great. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this. I had never heard of it, or Sigrid Gurie before.

Her twin brother, Knut Haukelid, is an interesting fellow as well. He was a war hero, one of the leaders of the Norwegian resistance in WWII. A film was made about him, The Heroes of Telemark
. He is played by Richard Harris in the movie.

Anyway, I'd like to read (and watch) more about both of them.

Turns out not only is she from NYC like my grandmother, but she also loved and lived in San Miguel de Allende like my grandmother did.
