Owl Post -- to Clarissa Flitwick

Sep 08, 2007 20:57

Dear Claire,

Please forgive me for not owling you earlier to express my condolences. Your father was a colleague of mine for over fourty years, and his loss is such a shock to us all, it's been hard to fathom it. He was, of course you will have been told, quite a hero in his final moments. I daresay any Gryffindor would have been proud to spend their lives in the saving of so many others', and I hope you'll not mind my saying it. I know that such things cannot possibly salve the pain his loss must be causing you and your family though.

Girlin, is there aught an old family friend can do for you now? The funeral arrangements, I've heard, are a ministry matter now that there's to be the posthumous Order of Merlin as a part of the ceremony, but I also know that there'll be solicitors and inheritances to be sorted out. I've a good eye for convenient math errors, such as can sometimes occur at times of sad distraction like these. Solicitors, after all, work first for themselves. Say the word, dear girl, and I'll be happy to come.

And of course, should your children want for company, they're welcome to come and visit for a few days. I daresay knowing they're being looked after by Clan McGonagall could well make it easier on your mind. As before, you've but to say the word.
Again, dear girl, you've my sympathies, and any help I have to offer. And it needn't stop at the funeral, I trust you understand. McGonagall owes Flitwick and his kin much in the way of honour and support.
You've but to ask.

Be well, Girlin.
Auntie Minerva.
