Went to check out the Toyotas yesterday. Drove a Corolla: nice size, nice quiet ride, but a VERY deep clutch. Did not like that you pretty much have to go to the floor to shift. It ment I had to be kinda close to the wheel. Other issue is the back seat is shaped forward toward the doors cutting into the hip room. It's okay if it's just your butt, not so good for packing with the tent trunks.
Looked at the Yaris sedan but the trunk is way too small and the hole when you put the back seat down is very low. You could not get a christmas tree inside the car. That's bad, so I didn't bother driving it.
The sales woman asked if I had considered the Scion XB -that weird looking box with little wheels. I had not, so she showed me one. It has a flat folding back seat and tall interior like the Fit. I took one of their "track"models for a ride around the block. The front is kinda cool. The windshield is way out from the driver, very square with good front visibility. The clutch was very shallow and kinda loose. Didn't love it. Also felt I didn't have very good visibility behind. I think it has huge blind spots because of the shape. Mileage is also not nearly as good as what I want. The Scion is VERY distinctive, but it's just not ME.
So I'm going back to the Fit Sport. The Fit fits. Gotta call the guy Monday and make an appointment to go over the car again when it's less crazy.
