Meme: Day Three

I'm actually doing pretty well with this thing so far. This one was a little challenging, because my detest and my love rarely waiver. But, I had more women than I thought I would on this one. Go fig.

Day Three: A Female Character You Hated But Grew To Love

Whitley Marion Gilbert- Wanye

I know Dwanye's in the pic, but that face was too clutch to pass up

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, where Denise Huxtable still went to Hillman, I wanted to nail one Whitley Gilbert to the wall and slap her silly. Truthfully, I knew my fair share of Whitleys. She was, afterall, modeled after a select group of women from around my way. It hit a little to close to home (there really are Whitleys in Richmond, my hand to God) and I wasn't keen on seeing it on my TV as well. But then a funny thing happened. Kimberly and Whitley became friends, and while she was still spoiled and selfish, her loyalties started to show. She actually had the capacity to care for other people, even people who weren't like her. She...was human. Painfullly flawed and more insecure than she cared to admit, but human. Plus, Jasmine Guy fit that role perfectly. Below is one of those moments that really made me fall for Whitley despite my best efforts not to.

She's holding down one of my mottos. "Don't get so caught up in the cause that you forget about the people in it." Old Whitley would've never taken that stand. Growth is good.
