I am going to confess right now...I avoid my homecoming like the plague. My situation, in the past, has made me uncomfortable and I just felt completely out of place. Admittedly, I isolated myself from people I actually liked and cared about, but part of my (flawed) personality let my pride trump fostering relationships. This year however, I decided to say "screw it." After all, I'm an adult and dammit, it's time to act like one.
So this homecoming I went to most of the events that the Black Alumni Association had, even though I'm not an alumni. And, I had a BLAST!!! I reconnected with people I actually liked. I was able to explain my situation with the utmost confidence, and even better, most people nodded and even acknowledged how impressive my planning was. Apparently, most people aren't that sure of what they want to do with their life. In this isolated world, I really don't connect that fact. I also drank two new drinks that pretty much tasted like candy in a glass. Or as my East Campus running buddy said "it's like drinking happiness.
I also realized that I'm WAY too old to drink like I did Friday night. When I say I was flucking hurt when I got home, I'm not lying. In fact, I'm pretty sure I was still tipsy until 1 pm the next day. My body was angry with me. But I still had way too much fun and realized that my perception of folks and myself are much healthier than they've ever been. And I know that I really, really like the friends I have. I'm not opposed to getting to know people, but, I don't NEED to make friends. It's all about want to, and that's a big deal.
Right, so day two. This entire meme is going to give me fits, but this one was actually easier than I thought.
Day Two: Favorit Supporting Female Character
Kalinda Sharma
Right, so technically this is Archie and not Kalinda, but I love the pic, so it stays.
I fail to find the words for why I love Kalinda SO much. I was a late comer to The Good Wife. I think CBS did a very poor job of marketing this show when it first came around. Something about it just didn't catch my fancy, and so I let it go by. Then, one day I saw it online and figured "why not" And that folks, is when I fell in love. When Kalinda answered Alicia's question about whether she worked for someone else with "Oh yeah", she had me. She is what Ms. Beej Thornton calls a "brutal bitch" She gets ish done, and she does it with a snazy line and a hell of a lot of conviction. And fabulous boots. Can't forget about the boots. If there is a better written female character on television, I'd like to know about her.
