I really should have gone with Fred to the vet this morning. I would have been a little more pushy about getting answers. Generally I can balance bitchiness with wide-eyed, cute concern and win vets over to providing me with more information than normal. I had to open the office today, though, so that didn't happen. If it winds up being thyroid-related, let me know. One of mine lived with hyperthyroidism for years and I gained crazy experience points dealing with it.
Come to think of it, give me a hollar if it's the kidneys, too. I don't have as much knowledge about that issue, but I may be able to tell you some things about it.
You can always call the vet's office and ask to speak to the vet directly. Any office I've dealt with has allowed that, especially when the primary owner of the pet wasn't able to be at the appointment. They shouldn't have any problem with putting you through to him and then you'll be able to hit him with a barrage of questions.

I will absolutely call you for pointers once I know what's going on. I tend to fall to pieces when something is wrong with one of the cats and someone with cat nursing experience will be a huge help. I did tell Mischief that if she does turn out to be really sick she'll have to get a job to help me pay the vet bills.
She didn't believe me.
