I’ve been meaning to post this for a while, just for one reason or another, haven’t gotten to it before now! So without further ado, in no particular order, the Things That Have Made Me Happy Recently list:
Real life.
1) MY FATHER’S GONE FOR A WEEK, WOOHOO! He’s off on a business trip to the Middle East, flitting from Dubai to Abu Dhabi to other

I'm going to do a post squeeing about it soon, but basically, it's about girls being offered the chance to get a wish granted, as long as they become 'mahou shoujou', magical girls, and fight witches, who are these trippy, mind-warping beings (the weirder bits in the vid would be these representations of the 'witches'), and they kinda root in certain areas and cause misery and suffering and like, convince people to commit suicide and such.
I'm not usually into animes, but the thing that sucked me in was how it was all cutesy and 'aww, girls in adorable outfits!'
And then it turns all dark and horrifying and there's revelation after revelation and I was in a constant state of MY MIND IS BLOWN and 'how is this a kid's show?!' and yeah. I dismissed animes as childish things, but the storytelling on this, whoa.
My fave character, Homura:
And, tbh, the main reason I got into the show- Kyubey:
He's the bad guy. ◕‿‿◕
Watched the vid (because, oddly enough, I was listening to Florence + The Machine on my way home from work) and I had absolutely no idea what was going on :P Is that the Madoka show you were talking about?
Morgana's certainly a badass. I love her, but the show does no justice to her character whatsoever. I only watch for her and Morgause, everyone else annoys me, lol. It's so black-and-white, things are bad when Morgana does them but not Uther or even Merlin. It's justified to keep her heritage from her and to leave her alone and scared and confused, but oh, wizards should be given support and encouragement, and we'll praise them for turning out good but scorn her for turning to the only person who was there for her, even though it led her down a different path and is therefore evil. I want to punch Gaius in the face, honestly.
Oh also, you have to take a pic of that dress! I LOOOOOOOVE green clothes
Hee! I'll get on that!

Gaius always pissed me off. Such a self-riotious bastard. He helped destroy magic in the kingdom and now he's helping Merlin discover his magic and sheltering him? What a HYPOCRITE!

Uh-huh, it's a standard thing in the magical girl genre, chicks transform from their school uniform into snazzy fighting outfits!
There's also a REALLY MIND-FRAKKING reason for it here later on. My fave thing about the show is the trope subversion. I already spoiled you on Kyubey being the baddie 'coz, well, I thought it was fascinating and it's kind of subtly foreshadowed in the story and it's SO DAMN COOL.
I read all these reviews about the show where people were like 'oh, it's standard mahou shoujou fare, girls transforming into pretty outfits, the cute mascot that gives them guidance' and then it turns around and serves up mind-frak after mind-frak relating to these things. Kyubey's the main reason this show is so huge and well-known, 'coz it's never been done before, that the cute adorable animal mascot is the baddie!
He couldn't hurt a fly! He's all *wriggles and looks cute*.
I KNOW. And then you have all the fanart where the girls are kicking the crap out of him!
And you're like, aww, but he's so cute, lay off! Well, I am. I love him. Badass villain. ^_^
Re: Gaius- IFKR? I hate how people see him as this kindly gentle helpful old mentor figure. He betrayed his own kind! He stood by and supported Uther's regime of terror and slaughter of innocents! He still protects Uther even as he continues committing genocide! The thing with Morgana still really pisses me off- he abandons her, then blames her innate evilness and praises Merlin's innate goodness- when Merlin had a loving mother, a supportive mentor and confirmation that he had a great destiny ahead of him. He had affection and guidance and healthy self-esteem and validation, no wonder he turned out all right. But Gaius just lies to Morgana, drugs her to the gills, refuses to train her or reassure her that she's not going mad...and we're supposed to think that's okay? The sexism is so appalling. (especially with an ep in s3 where a wizard turns up in Camelot and Merlin IMMEDIATELY befriends and helps him! Morgana was his friend but he said nothing to her, even as she thought she was losing her mind, but this complete stranger warrants his compassion? *stabs writers*)
