SSHG Fic Recs

I know y’all are going to think I’m so lame for this, but it’s my SSHG anniversary today!

A year ago, on this date, I fell completely for this bizarre and wonderful ship.

The long and winding path to shipperhood )

I'm so pleased that you enjoyed them enough to rec them to others!

Oh, Even Stopper Death is one of my favorite ‘Snape Lives!’ fics. As much as I wanted someone to care enough to save him, it was pretty unrealistic; if he was going to live, he’d have to take care of it himself. And the way you tied everything together was so neat and brilliant and I was just gaping, like, ‘Ohhh, that makes sense! Of course!’

Plus. I always love seeing child!Hermione interacting with him. Fandom is so occupied with shippiness that it’s a dynamic rarely explored, so that was wonderful getting a glimpse of it in your fic.

Oh, and you know, with Never Too Late…it broke quite a few of my rules, lol.

* I don’t generally read fics with adult!Hermione.
[I know, I’m missing out on a huge chunk of wonderful fics for this ship, but when I was younger, I totally identified with Hermione, and even though I’ve changed in recent years, I still find it really easy to get into her mindset. Whereas with adult!Hermione, with a busy thriving career and kids and history with Ron or whoever…I just can’t. *shrugs* Maybe when I'm older, but for now, I definitely prefer teen-young adult!Hermione]

* I don’t read fics where the crapilogue is acknowledged and followed through.

* And I especially don’t read fics with character death.

But damn it all, I’d loved all your fics, so I decided I may as well give this one a shot. And of course, you made me love it anyway, despite all the things that normally make me reject other fics. [Also, I particularly loved that joke about Hermione’s soul being late and delaying for about twenty years because she was all, ‘Wait a sec! Let me finish this chapter first!’ lol]

And the epilogue. Oh my GOD, that epilogue. So Hermione was successful in arguing their case, and this replaying of events but for a better and happier future made me squee so hard. ^_^ I’m not a fan of fics where Snape’s history is rewritten, because I’m a fan of the bitter and brooding snarky Snape, okay, and I like the idea of him being rewarded by having a happy and fulfilling relationship once the war was over, and this kinda subverted that rewrite-history cliché and doubly satisfied my longing for him to get that happy ending.

And one last thing before I stop babbling: as much as I loved your epilogue, I still shed a few tears at that ‘I promised I’d never be late again’ line. I’m not sure why, because it wasn’t sad or anything, but…I think it’s because there was just so much depth and weight to that moment when he was choosing between the two girls, he didn’t know how or why it was so important, but we have the benefit of hindsight and knowing all the history, and then that simple moment when he shrugs off Amanda and goes after Hortensia…it becomes so much more significant and wonderful and GUH. ♥

Now I kinda wish there was a series about Solomon and Hortensia’s adventures at Hogwarts, lol.
