I have a problem with spending money on food. It is really hard for me to do. I just see it as such a huge waste of money because, as I mentioned to revengent once when I was angsting over spending money mother gave me to buy myself dinner, food is transitory. I see no value in spending money on it, unlike with possessions I can hold onto for years

you must buy food to be able to eat it
This is me having been a spoilt brat and having everyone provide for her. I've grown accustomed to that, so when it comes time for me to get things for myself, I'm all 'gah, the cost of living! Buy as cheaply as possible!' (although IDK why people don't shop at Aldi's more, I mean, their bread and cereal is just as good, if not better, than Safeway, even if they're not 'known' brands)
Do you really buy lunch everyday? Whoa! But then again, I think it's different when you have a job and you're earning money, you're already being responsible and productive there, so if it makes your day easier, then why not? (I think it's amusing when my mother and aunt talk about teachers at their school having like, weekly/fortnightly gatherings at bars, what with the students driving them to drink, poor things. Although not when it gets to the point where the teachers from my aunt's school have been banned from certain pubs for bad behavior. O.o)
food trumps clothes
If it's a case of life-or-death, well, yeah! You can't eat clothes. But growing up with food always available, it wasn't as much of a priority to spend my money on that. I mean, in high school, I didn't have a job or allowance, so saving lunch money was the only way for me to buy things independently, and I've just gotten used to that attitude of 'between food or material possessions, the latter wins'.
