Seven Day Fool

I am getting very frustrated with the fact that so many TV shows, in order to set up a main plot line, are making complete idiots of their characters.

Legend of the Seeker: Desecrated - The Seeker's two guardians, one of whom happens to be (supposedly) his soulmate/love of his life, are asked to come up on stage by a creepy illusionist to help out in his disappearing trick. At no point did anyone think this was odd or unwise(well Cara did, but as usual she was out voted). Really? Really? You're constantly surrounded by enemies, most of whom can wield magic (including the ability to disguise themselves) and you still haven't learned the most basic of tactics?

Stargate Universe: Space - The senator's daughter, whose only purpose on the ship and show apparently is to be stupid, fuck the LT, and be "pretty," is a complete buffoon. She keeps proving this, but I'm only going to highlight the most recent example of utter idiocy. What she must have been saying in her mind during this ep: Oh, we're being attacked by multiple alien ships and I, a person with no combat or military training and nothing even remotely resembling a weapon, am going to wander out of my quarters in the middle of battle to look at the attack up close. And by up close I mean right next to the bulkhead being targeted. Oh look, a nice military person with a weapon is telling me to go back to my quarters. I'm going to ignore him and wander right up to that glowing section of ceiling. Oh, the section of ceiling was just cut open, I'm going to look up into the attacking alien's ship. Oh my, that light is bright. HOLY FUJIOLI GIRL! Could Darwinism please kick in and your stupidity finally find a way to kill you. Seriously. Get out of our gene pool.

I know that people occasionally do stupid things even when they aren't, but there's a difference between a brain fart and total loss of mental capacity.
