New Year's Meme

Jan 03, 2010 16:55

Since I'm trying to avoid work today I figured, what the hell:

01. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
I got knocked up!

02. Did you keep your new years' resolutions?
Wow, not at all in retrospect. Life kind of got in the way. I was hell bent on finally going on our honeymoon (5 years late) and enrolling in some MA/MFA program but instead my life took a surprisingly sudden turn towards parenthood-eek! I claimed that ’09 would be all about babies but I meant OTHER people’s babies since everyone I know seems to be having them. Little did I know we would be included in my prediction, I blame Obama and his grandiose message of hope. I think my kid’s generation should be called Obama Boomers.

03. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Seriously, I think just about every female I know in their 30’s got pregnant or gave birth this past year. Obama Boomers!

04. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, no.

05. What countries did you visit?
Sadly, I barely even left CA this year. This whole unemployment thang sucks for many reasons.

06. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Steady income. Steady income. Steady income. If I say it more often is it more likely to happen?

07. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory & why?
August 20th-my sister had her first baby!

08. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Moving out of Napa and back into society.

09. What was your biggest failure?
See question #2 re: resolutions

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing major really. I sprained my ankle pretty badly while wandering in the woods that took awhile to heal and 1st trimester nausea was fuckin’ awful. 3 months of feeling like you just want to puke all the time is pure misery.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Bought? I can’t remember the last time I bought anything that wasn’t a necessity. So I guess food that kept me alive.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My husband, for not killing his Grandmother.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled & depressed?
Grandmother-in-law, seriously she’s the devil. Oh and Republicans, always and forever.

14. Where did most of your money go?
What’s this thing called money?

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
We’re having a girl!!!

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Argh, I can’t deny it-Poker Face by Lady Gaga! I swear it was played on a loop and piped in everywhere all year long.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a. Much happier since I have my own home again away from in-laws and live much closer to friends and many social activities. Yay!
b. Ugh, so much fatter. 2010 is going to be such a bitch losing all this baby weight and then some.
c. Poorer in some ways in that our savings is now gone, but richer in other ways in that we paid off all sorts of debt. So, I’m not really sure if that makes me richer or poorer actually but it makes me much less panicky about our financial situation which counts for something!

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Like every year, traveling.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinating.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Of ’09 or ’10? One is now so in the past and the other is too far in the future!

21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
Family all over the U.S., especially those that refuse to figure out e-mail or anything computer related.

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Yes! I fall even more in love with my husband every week, month and year.

23. How many one-night stands?
Zilch.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Too hard to choose, please don’t make me choose! Battlestar Galactica, Lost, Heroes, The Office, 30 Rock………..

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I hate everyone evenly, I don’t play favorites.

26. What was the best book you read?
’Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life’ by Barbara Kingsolver-not sure if it was necessarily the best book of the year but I did learn a lot from it and it stuck with me. I also really enjoyed ‘Water for Elephants’ by Sara Gruen because it was a fun, fast read with interesting characters.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I guess The Black Keys? I’d never heard of them before this year & I likes ‘em a lot.

28. What did you want & get?
A kick ass video camera.

29. What did you want & not get?
Flying car, gimme!!

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Wow, there were quite a few awesome flicks this year! I really enjoyed:
Inglourious Basterds
District 9
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Zombieland
Coraline
The Hangover

31. What did you do on your birthday & how old were you?
I spent my 33rd birthday in San Francisco just walking, shopping and eating. It was awesome.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Wtf, this is difficult to answer. Discovering the cure for cancer? Winning the lottery? Either would have made ’09 immeasurably more satisfying.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Ha! I guess, comfort and durability while living in the woods as an awkward pregnant hippo?

34. What kept you sane?
Long drives while blasting music.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I still love my man, Obama. He has a lot of shit to shovel but he’s slowly working through it.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Healthcare reform and gay marriage-let’s get it together people!

37. Who did you miss?
My NW peeps.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
The best new person I met was my 2 week old nephew, he’s stilpretty new!

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
Life happens while you’re planning for it.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
P-P-P-POKER FACE, P-P-P-POKER FACE
(Mum mum mum mah)
P-P-P-POKER FACE, P-P-P-POKER FACE
(Mum mum mum mah)
