Not my favourite episode, but lots of interesting developments. I had expected more angst between Bill and Sookie about him biting her, but she got into it. And while I don't really 'get' that (I'm more in the LaFayette mindset), I liked that she stood up for herself so much. She's a tough little thing and having made her decision, I'm glad she had no regrets. The only thing that made me sad is that grief for her grandmother appeared to be completely swept away. When she walked back into her house, I expected her gran to be there. :(
taragel, you were right: the uncle abused Sookie. Though not very much in the scheme of things. I don't mean to be dismissive of what must have definitely been a disturbing experience for a young girl, but Sookie herself seemed well adjusted about it, and I didn't think it warranted the vengeance kill. I guess that was/is going to be the point though--we got to see the dark side of Bill's uber-protection.
I'm glad LaFayette drew a line with Jason. Yay. What a shit Jason is. Stealing now? And trying it on like that with LaFayette? Grr. Two hits and he's a total junkie... I'd be more sympathetic to his jitters if he was a long-term addict, but man, that guy needs some self-control. Gaia chick has not been helpful for that! (And MAN was she annoying. The most boring kind of addicts are the ones who wank on and on about how spiritual and amazing the experience is. *yawn*) I rather wanted Jason to get in some serious shit with the vamps in the club so I guess I'm a bit disappointed she 'rescued' him from that fate. ;)
I looooed Pam psyching Sam on the door. And wow, Eric is hilarious! I want more of them--they're just teasing us so far.
Poor, poor Tara. Yikes. This episode was really confronting for her storyline, I felt. I hated seeing her tear-up when her mother went nuts at the bank. I am sure Tara could see the attention-seeking behaviour for what it was, but at the same time there comes a point where it's too hard to fight it. Having to see her mother in such a state is a state of constant pain for her, and I can understand why she decided to do whatever she could to end it. And if her mother believed it that much, then there was a chance that it could prompt a new start for her. (However, I really REALLY wish that there'd been some dialogue about Tara trying to get social support/mental health help for her mother first. I'm going to fanwank that she's tried that and there just aren't the resources where she lives to handle it properly. Because I really felt like her mum should be admitted after that bank incident...)
I liked the exorcist, even though I'm a sceptic. It's an older way of looking at the world, and at one level there's truth in what she says about Tara. Tara is haunted by her own 'demons' and self-awareness doesn't help her vanquish them, it just makes her more painfully aware of the nature of her struggle. She doesn't need an exorcist to get rid of them, but she may need *something*. I don't want Tara to buy into the idea that she can magic her issues away, but it seemed like they were setting things up for her to return to the exorcist.
Tara and Sam yelling at each other is painful to watch, but I still kind of hold out hope that they will get it together.
Sam IS a werewolf! Woot! This pleases me. Full moon + nudity? Definitely a werewolf. Is the dog then just a pack-buddy? Guess so.
The trashy gang are back. Them busting up Merlotte's was pretty scary given that it allowed us to see how powerful even a small number of them could be. The response from the rednecks seems like it would be pretty typical as a human response to that sort of threat on a small, local level. Vampires may be on the path to integration on the global political scale, but they still provoke primitive fears and aggression in people, especially the uneducated and those inclined to violence anyway.
Poor Terry! *sniffles* I really liked that little scene of him angsting about not doing anything--he's a great minor cast character.
Bill CAN'T have been in the house, surely, but this show is great at cliffhangers. I will not be sad if the other three are toast though.
