Making 'Paranoid Android'

May 20, 2008 19:08

Paranoid Android feels like a milestone in my history as a vidder. I learnt so much in making it, both about vidding and about the show (Smallville) and the character (Lex). Originally I was going to post notes about the vid with the vid, but I decided against this for two reasons ( Read more... )

It sounds like you really put your heart and soul into the vid, and I have to tell you, I think it's a beautiful piece of work, and a tribute to both Michael Rosenbaum's portrayal of Lex, and to Lex himself. Thanks for sharing your journey with us!

Thank you! :) I feel like it's the least I can do given all I've got out of his performance--I wouldn't be in fandom if not for him.

*averting my eyes from the spoilers*

I just need to say that I am so looking forward to watching this vid. Possibly more than I'm looking forward to watching the rest of SV's season, which I stopped following a few months back. And at some point this summer (well, winter for you) I will get around to downloading the rest of the episodes and mainlining them (I tend to like SV best that way anyway), so that THEN I can watch your new vid and understand what it references, and that will be a most happy day.

Whee! I will await this day excitedly. :) I think mainlining is a very good idea and hope it works out for you.

Not tl;dr at all.
Reading all this just reinforces to me what an incredible accomplishment this vid is - for fandom, and for yourself.

I enjoy reading the breakdown of your actual thought process in creating the vid. On a *much* smaller scale, I tend to put a lot of thought into my art pieces, little things that I know damn well no one but myself will ever appreciate. So to hear you really lay out a lot of those details that you had in mind while creating this makes me want to go back and rewatch it with those things in mind. Although, I already have so much appreciation for this wonderful work of yours.

Yay! I'm glad you could relate to it through your own artistic work/process. And yes, I totally know about those little things noone else will appreciate. This vid is full of them. But at least it seems to have resonated with the people who've watched it.

I've been trying to formulate words to leave feeback for that vid, and so far they're escaping me. I've watched it about four times already, and I keep being blown away by it every time. Reading the process - well, I'm even more impressed, and I didn't think that was possible.

Wow! Thank you! I think the term that supacat used to describe how she felt after watching was 'emotionally flattened'. I feel a little guilty putting people through this (I'm honestly not a sadist!) but I'm not sure the vid would be so successful if it didn't feel that way.

I'm especially excited to know it worked for you since you're meta for the show is so sophisticated. If it worked for you, that's a good sign that I hit the right note. :)
