Road Stories...

On my way to meet up with eniastoa up at MooU (why, yes, it is air conditioned there, how ever did you guess???) I got to experience some real strange stuff...

As I got off the bus downtown, I saw a cougar. Allow me to describe her: too-tight polyester leopard print blouse, black bikeshorts/hotpants, Dolly Parton hair, 4" stiletto heels, and enough makeup to earn at least one Mary Kay commando a pink Caddy. She yelled "Hey, sweetie!" and wobbled her way over to where I was waiting to cross the street.

"Say, hon, do you know which bus would take me to The Stampede Ranch? It's my birthday today, and I've got to find some men to buy me a drink or two!" I pointed her over to #22, and started to cross the street.

She followed me, saying, "You know, it's my 30th birthday today!"

I looked at her for a moment, then said, "Really? Did you know that I'm starting 8th grade in September?"

"Wow, you're tall for your age," she says, and wobbles towards the poor unsuspecting driver on Route#22.

Now I'm on the other side of downtown, on a different bus, waiting at a stoplight. I see a pair of motorcycles coming down the street towards me. These were gorgeous custom touring Harley-Davidsons, ridden by an older, probably retired, couple.

As I'm admiring the view, I realize that there was something weird about the man's bike. There was a small dog on it. Looked like an older black miniature poodle. Said poodle was sitting in a custom "seat" that was looked like it was part of the gas tank. Wearing a custom motorbike helmet that exactly matched the couple's helmets (except the dog's didn't have a visor).

That was one happy looking dog.

I was wondering if I was hallucinating (yeah, it's that damned hot today), then I heard the driver in the bus behind us ask over the radio, "Whoah, did you see that dog on the bike? That's a way cool helmet!"

Aah, the freedom of the open road. I miss it.
